Rock steady!

All I can say is WOW! This amazing 3 DVD set from Madman is quite possibly the best look we have ever had at the force of nature that is Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock.

Did you actually look at the running time? 9 hours! I was staggered at just how much information was provided on this release. Spanning the three discs we are lucky enough to see all new information and insight in to the Rock’s wrestling journey, comments about the big matches from some of the biggest names in the WWE, and most importantly you have the Rock giving his take on his own career.

I was actually surprised by this, and it was an utter thrill to see that the Rock has been such a part of the process of putting this together. The main documentary part of this feature runs at a breathtaking pace and clocks in at 2 hours.  We get to see and hear from the main man as he relives his illustrious career. There are insights that you will not hear anywhere but on this DVD and the contributions from the other players that were there at such key points in the Rock’s journey make this compelling viewing.

For those who are expecting Dwayne Johnson the movie star, this is not really the DVD for you. This is a balls to the wall recollection of some of what could arguably be the greatest moments in the WWE from humble beginnings, to his career in NCAA football, to becoming the seven time champion in the biggest competition in entertainment sports.

I have been a fan of the Rock for many years and something that never ceases to amaze me is the utter passion and humble nature Dwayne Johnson has about him. Lets face it; he is quite arguably one of the biggest names in the world right now with some fantastic movies under his belt. He has made the transition from wrestling to the big screen, yet still remains grateful for the opportunities he has had. It is really inspiring and a joy to see and hear him speak.

Another favourite part of this disc for me personally, was listening to Mick Foley talk about some of the bouts that took place between himself and the People’s Champion. Foley has always been a larger than life character for me, so it was fantastic to find out more of that juicy behind the scenes detail you wouldn’t otherwise know. One thing I did notice was that during the feature there is a gradual transition with who was giving the commentary with more from other wrestlers than the Rock. It didn’t impact too much on the overall enjoyment I got from the viewing experience.

Something for viewers to note: some of the older footage is a touch blurry but you need to bear in mind it was filmed with the equipment of the time and should be viewed as such. It certainly is not a fault with the production of the DVD and was really cool to see some of these flashbacks and bouts themselves.

In summary; this 3 disc set is a must have for fans of the Rock and WWE. It is created with an honesty that is quite refreshing and keeps you interested even if you are already aware of the story of the People’ Champion. The feature is brilliant and with yet another seven hours to keep you busy, the entry price of about $25 makes this a no brainer.

Do yourself a favour and enjoy the heck out of this.
