Moonychka Cospaly Interview (The Russian Harley Quinn)

We talk with Moonychka (aka Mashenka) an amazing cosplayer from Saint Petersburg Russia who is a real-life Harley Quinn with her cosplays and has brought to life a variety of other fictional characters with perfect detail! Mashenka is also a photographer, writer and a HUGE fan of Sailor Moon!

Welcome to Impulse Gamer Mashenka, so how did you become involved in cosplay?

I become involved in cosplay in 2012. I came up with Sailor Sun in 2007, when I was 14 years old and I wrote fan fiction about Sailor Sun which included her adventures. I dreamed then that I would wear Sailor Fuku in the future and five years later I created my first and my lovely cosplay – my Sailor Sun.

What does cosplay mean to you?

Cosplay is an important part of my life. It’s not only costume play for me, no… this is a hobby that has allowed me to have a lot of friends and learn different things. I love cosplay so much!

Tell us what you love and loathe about cosplay?

Mmm… such a difficult question. I think, I love meeting really cool people, playing different roles of my favorite character and having fun at festivals. However I hate envious cosplayers who discuss with other people. In my opinion, it’s terrible. Fandom should be friendly, but not jealous. Also, I don’t like to sew but I must! :(

Tell us about your romantic Usagi and Mamoru photoshoot and what inspired you to create this?

Ooooo, I this photoshoot, it was my second dream ^_^ as I’ve been a big fan of Sailor Moon since 1998! I also adore the 7th act of the Manga. I think, it’s adorable as Usagi knew that Mamoru is the Tuxedo Mask. This act is really heartwarming and makes me cry!
I also have a partner in cosplay, Andrey. He’s my Mamoru. I told him about my huge crazy idea of making a love story photoshoot based on the Manga and he agreed. I was so happy! My friend who is a talent photographer Vesta helped us with the photoshoot. Thanks for her so much ❤

What’s been your favourite photoshoot?

I think, my favorite photoshoot is Lili from Tekken.

What was it like cosplaying Harley Quinn?

It was CRAZY because I’m a really crazy cool girl like Harley, so I play her role easily. I love to fool around, laugh and stick to the Joker. I think that this character was created for me ????

With your Sailor Moon photoshoot, what did you like the most about it?

Aaaa, I don’t know. I like it ALL! Although I adore the photo near the window!

What advice would you give to people wanting to cosplay?

If you really want to cosplay, don’t give up! And most importantly, play the role of a character. Be emotional!

Which has been your most difficult costume to create?

Harley Quinn from Injustice. Harley Quinn’s costume is my headache ???? It was really difficult for me. At first, it was the jacket. I made it from leather and it was my first and last experience work with this material. Secondly, it was the many other accessories. For example, 3 daggers, belts, spikes on the shoes, etc. In the end, the wig. However, my best friend and fairy of wigs Leto An helped me and made a cool wig. THANKS LETO! ❤

Where do you get your cosplay inspirations from?

From my love of fandoms. I cosplay only my favorite characters, not those that are only popular.

Tell us your funniest cosplay story?

In the first ComicCon in Saint Petersburg I was performing with my Sailor Scouts team. When I knew that we had been in the final, I was so joyful that I ran to tell the girls. I ran and I ran, then I heard someone screaming. I didn’t understand it at the time because I wanted to find my team and I was smiling and laughing. Then I hear someone cry “Sailor Moon, you lost your tail!”.  I turn around and see a girl running behind me and in her hands was my tail from my wig :) …  I didn’t even notice how it fell off ^_^

Lastly, who do you hope to cosplay in 2017?

I hope to cosplay Thumbelina, Sailor Aluminum Siren, the new Sleeping Beauty’s costume and some costumes from Sailor Moon and Harley ^_^
