Fun times!

Welcome to a whole world of fun for children… and they’re parents courtesy of Little Nation’s badged electric cars that have been designed for children between the ages of 3 and 8. So with the craze of electric cars, we reviewed Little Nation’s Mercedes-Benz Style G65 that is one sweet ride. Mirroring its real-world counterpart well, you could almost be forgiven in thinking that this is an actual G65.

However at its core, it’s a miniature electric car that measures at a whopping 117 x 70 x 54cm and can reach speeds of up to 10km per hour. There are two ways to control this car and that’s via the parental remote which gives you full control over the G65 or children can actually drive the car themselves.

Specifications

  • Motor 2x25w
  • Speed 2-10km/h
  • Gears Low/High/Reverse
  • Battery 12V
  • Charge Time 8-12 hours
  • Run Time: 1.5 – 2 hours
  • Max User Weight: 30kg
  • Remote Control: Yes
  • Dimensions: 117 x 70 x 54cm

Out of the box, the Mercedes-Benz Style G65 is a relatively well-built product but more importantly, it’s quite sturdy once it has been fully assembled. As this was my first Little Nation car to build, it took around 30-minutes to successfully ‘build’ it in my living room garage. Although there are a handful of parts, the instructions are a little left to be desired in certain places. My advice to Little Nation would be to make the instructions A4 in size and to colourise the images that would make the building process a little more user friendly.

Once you have unpacked the car and put all the pieces on the floor, the first step was to install the undercarriage which gives the vehicle more support plus the two axles. Next up was to install the rear wheels (including wheel nuts), followed by the front wheels and then hook up the wires to the rear wheels, including power to the main battery. With the car the correct way up again, I then installed the seat an carefully ensured that the seat belt was in the correct spot.

Unboxing & Assembly Photos

The last few elements was installing the steering wheel onto the steering column and then screwing the steering wheel in place plus add the windscreen and side mirrors. Since then, I have put together another Little Nation vehicle with the Mercedes-Benz Style electric car and that was easier to build because the four wheels had a push button mechanism. Nonetheless, the build process is relatively easy on both models. With batteries installed into the remote and when I turned the key which creates an engine noise, I then paired the remote and presto, we were ready to drive.

In testing the vehicle, the remote control is a little strange and does need a redesign because the buttons that control the car seem a little awkward in terms of layout. Thankfully you do get familiar with the controls and after a few ‘drives’, it becomes second nature as you drive the Mercedes-Benz Style G65 with you child in it. Our girls who are a little younger than the recommended age really enjoy sitting in this car as we drive them around to laughs, smiles and all-round fun.

They also enjoy pushing the horn on the steering wheel and pushing the music button. Amazingly the car comes with an MP3 player, including pre-loaded music. The pre-loaded music (although younger children will enjoy it) is a little… ho-hum so get ready to load some Wiggles on it.

As the car has large treaded wheels, it will allow the driver to control this vehicle on a variety of different surfaces, including grass, the pavement or indoors. In discussion with with other parents, their children love these electric cars, especially the freedom it gives them to drive. However with the remote, it does come with an emergency stop button and you can control the speeds directly from this device.

Little Nation also recommend that you charge the car once you have assembled it which can take up to 8-hours. Our car did come with some power which helped in our initial testing and the battery life (depending on how fast you drive the car) will last between 1.5 to 2 hours. The car does come with a mains transformer which simply allows you to plug the car into the wall for easy charging.

Final Thoughts?

All in all the Little Nation Mercedes-Benz Style G65 is one sweet ride that children will love for quite a few years. The build-quality is good and once assembled, it feels quite sturdy that should outlast your children. Spare batteries are also available and my only slight gripe with the car are the instructions and that some ‘mild’ force was needed to put some of the pieces together. Apart from that, this car is going to be a favourite with our girls for years to come… and probably their parents as well!
