The gaming landscape can be quite perilous to navigate, especially if you’re a newcomer to PC gaming.

However if you have the finances and looking to future proof your investment (for a little bit anyway), then ASUS have the power-up you’re looking for with their new ROG Strix Scar 15 G533 that comes with a wealth of features, all tailored towards the gamer seeking performance.

Imagine a desktop gaming rig minified and you get the ROG Strix Scar 15 G533 that is available in two models, the G533ZX-HF067W and the G533ZW-HF098W (reviewed) with the primary difference being the graphics card.

The G533ZX-HF067W comes with the more powerful NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080 Ti Laptop GPU (16GB), whereas the G533ZW-HF098W has the slightly less powerful NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3070 Ti Laptop GPU (8GB).

Nonetheless, both are still as mighty as Thor’s hammer Mjölnir!

Complementing its aesthetics are the RGB-lights under the ROG RX Red optical mechanical switches, including a partial clear design in the top right-hand corner of the laptop which is different but again, a cool touch by ASUS.

The 15.6″ screen boasts a fast 300Hz refresh rate which produces super sharp images with vibrant colours that make this gaming laptop perfect for all computer uses and yes, games looks fantastic on the G533 ROG Strix Scar 15, particularly those running at a higher frame rate.

Once the G533 ROG Strix Scar 15 boots, you are treated to the Windows 11 interface that does require you to connect it to your Wi-Fi network and once done, you can start your gaming.

It is a very quick laptop and navigating the operating system or internet is a breeze courtesy of its Wi-Fi 6e capabilities.

Additionally, there’s a spare M.2 slot for installing a second NVMe SSD to increase your gaming storage. The installed NMVe SSD is quite speedy with CrystalDiskMark scoring the sequel read at 7021/MBs and a write of 5213MB/s.

Of course, it’s all about gaming… gaming!

We trialed Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Strix Scar 15 and the game averaged at 100 frames per second at 1080p with full detail. Cyberpunk 2077 that after all its patches and negative press is a very playable game now and scored a sturdy 80 frames per second with again full detail at 1080p. The PlayStation 4 game, now available on PC Horizon Zero Dawn kept its frames per second at 120 which didn’t miss a beat with full detail on.

Alternatively, running games at 1440p still played great, although as expected there is a small dip in framerate. Cyberpunk 2077 drops to an average 50 frames per second, Red Dead Redemption to 75 and Horizon Zero Dawn at 95. All three very playable.

Final Thoughts?

At its core, the G533 ROG Strix Scar 15 is a very impressive gaming laptop and while it does get a little warm when running games at full detail with a decent resolution, it is fortunately not that loud when the cooling kicks in which allows you to play to your hearts content. Aesthetically it looks fantastic, ports are well located, the screen is clear/sharp and my only downside to the design is that the chassis is not smudge resistance.

In terms of performance, I can’t fault it with its CPU and GPU combination, including the ability of easily installing another drive. Just be warned that it does come at a cost, however more affordable than most but if you have the finances, the ASUS G533 ROG Strix Scar 15 is a true gaming laptop in all sense of the words.
