OPPO Redefines Entry Level Category with $259 A17 Smartphone

If the rising cost of living has got you seeking luxury for less, OPPO Australia might just have the remedy. The smartphone maker has today launched its latest handset, the OPPO A17, bringing a range of innovations previously reserved for flagship devices to its entry-level range. Priced at just $259 and available from today, the OPPO A17 is the perfect option for price-savvy consumers.

Dressed to Impress

Forget the bulk standard exteriors that have plagued the category for years, the OPPO A17 utilises a composite processing technique that makes the phone’s back cover look and feel like genuine leather – a premium styling previously reserved for OPPO’s flagship Find Series. It comes in two colour finishes, Lake Blue and Midnight Black, each offering a fresh and premium aesthetic destined to turn heads.

The A17 inherits OPPO’s Ultra-Slim Retro Design with a flat-edged middle frame and smoothed edges, giving the phone its sleek, premium appearance. Weighing approximately 189g with a thickness of around 8.29mm, the A17 feels both light and premium in hand.

“The A17 might be a lightweight smartphone, but make no mistake, this device packs a punch, ” said OPPO Australia Managing Director, Michael Tran. “With the A17 we’ve prioritised features that Aussies value most, such as a quality camera system, long-lasting battery and sleek design, and brought them to market at a pocket-friendly price point. We’re confident the A17 will impress,” added Tran.

Beauty & A Beast

The A17 is more than a pretty face. Inside it is jam-packed with hardware and software innovations to stand toe-to-toe with more expensive models.

For those who love to capture special moments on camera, the OPPO A17 includes a 50MP AI main camera and a 5MP front camera capable of delivering stunning photos with precision and clarity.  Equipped with a long-lasting 5,000mAh large battery that can provide 20 hours of phone calls on a full charge, the OPPO A17 is ideal for those who use their phone for long periods of time but have no way to charge it during the day.

Additionally, the Super Power Saving Mode will kick in to help maximise every last bit of battery when it drops to 10%, solving any user charging anxiety. What’s more, the OPPO A17 also features Super Nighttime Standby, a new feature that leverages AI capabilities to learn users’ sleep patterns and reduce power consumption, controlling battery use to within just 2-3% of total capacity during a single night.

Featuring a MediaTek Helio G35 Mobile Platform, the OPPO A17 provides efficient performance with a CPU speed of up to 2.3 GHz. With OPPO’s RAM Expansion technology, the phone’s RAM capacity can be expanded by borrowing up to 4GB of unused ROM, allowing the device to run multiple memory-heavy apps with less lag.

The OPPO A17 is built for convenience and efficiency with OPPO’s ColorOS 12.1. Some of the key features include:

  • Three-Finger Translate with Google Lens, which can quickly translate text in a screenshot into over 100 supported languages.
  • FlexDrop allows users to keep an additional app open in a small floating window, providing more effective multitasking when switching between apps.
  • Enhanced security features, such as Five-Grade Access Control and Photo Information Protection, to help keep sensitive information secure.
