Valve Reveals the Top 50 Most-Played Demos from June’s Steam Next Fest

Another massive Steam Next Fest has officially wrapped up, and the folks over at Valve have been crunching the numbers. From June 15th through June 22nd, PC gamers flooded the platform to get early, free hands-on time with hundreds of upcoming indie gems and highly anticipated blockbusters.
With thousands of unique players jumping into action, wishlisting their favorites, and breaking servers, Valve has officially compiled and released the 50 most-played demos of the festival based on unique player counts.

Missed Out? Many Demos Are Still Live!

If you had a busy week and couldn’t log the hours on your rig or Steam Deck, don’t panic just yet. While the official festival window has closed, many developers have chosen to keep their demos live on their respective Steam store pages for a little while longer.
Valve has set up a dedicated recap page where you can browse the full top 50, compare what your friends were playing, and snag a few last-minute downloads before they vanish.

Heavy Hitters of the Fest

While the full list covers everything from ultra-niche puzzle games to massive multiplayer experiences, a few standout titles absolutely dominated player charts and community chatter this week:

  • Echoes of Aincrad: Bandai Namco’s upcoming third-person anime ARPG drew massive crowds of Sword Art Online fans eager to test out its fluid combat mechanics and partner-synergy systems.
  • EMPULSE: The team behind Splitgate turned heads with this blistering 6v6 movement shooter. Mixing Titanfall-style mech piloting and wall-running with heavy verticality, it was an instant hit for arena shooter veterans.
  • Mistfall Hunter: Proof that the extraction genre isn’t slowing down, this dark fantasy extraction ARPG traded tactical firearms for brutal, Souls-like melee combat and spellcasting.
  • Over the Hill: For a change of pace, the developers behind Art of Rally captured the community’s heart with this gorgeous, atmospheric 4×4 off-roading simulator focused on rugged trails, winches, and pure exploration tension.
  • Dust Front RTS: Catering beautifully to old-school ’90s PC gaming heads, this classic RTS blend of grand strategy and non-linear campaigning proved that the RTS genre still has a fierce, dedicated audience.

What’s Next?

Whether you were stress-testing an upcoming shooter or relaxing with a cozy base-builder, this June edition proved that the indie scene is healthier—and more diverse—than ever.
Make sure to head over to Steam, check out the top 50 list, and smash that Wishlist button on the projects you want to support. It’s the single best way to help indie developers cross the finish line toward full launch.
The Steam Team has already confirmed they will return in the Fall for the next iteration of Steam Next Fest. Until then, get to work on that backlog!
