The Return of the Living Room King: Valve Drops New Steam Machine and Kicks Off Anti-Scalper Lottery
Valve has officially dropped a massive hardware bombshell. A decade after their original attempt to conquer the couch, the gaming titans are back with a brand-new, ultra-compact Steam Machine.
Pumping out six times the processing horsepower of the Steam Deck, this miniature beast squeezes a semi-custom AMD desktop-class processor into a mind-boggling 6-inch cube. It runs entirely on SteamOS, plugs straight into your TV or monitor, and targets smooth 4K gaming at 60 FPS using AMD’s FSR upscaling technology. It’s quiet, it runs cool, it features a built-in power supply, and yes—it has a customizable front LED strip.
There is a catch, though. Due to the ongoing global chip and memory crunch driven by the AI boom, entry into Valve’s living room ecosystem isn’t cheap.
Here is everything you need to know about pricing, specs, and how to survive the reservation lottery to score one for yourself.
Pricing & Bundles
Valve is launching the Steam Machine today in four separate configurations, with optional bundles that include the newly minted Steam Controller.
If you decide to splash out on the premium 2TB tier, Valve is sweetening the deal by tossing in two swapable, premium aesthetic upgrades: a red fabric faceplate and a solid walnut wood faceplate to help it blend seamlessly into your entertainment unit. Under the Hood: Steam Machine Highlights
Valve isn’t messing around with the footprint here. This thing is a literal 15cm cube, yet it packs genuine desktop-class architecture:
- The Powerhouse: Powered by a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU (6 Cores/12 Threads) alongside an RDNA3 GPU (28 Compute Units), backed by 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 8GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM.
- The Ecosystem: Fully optimized by SteamOS. If a game is already Steam Deck Verified, it is instantly ready to rock on the Steam Machine out of the box with zero configuration required.
- Form Factor: A tiny 6-inch cube that runs whisper-quiet. Features an integrated power supply (no massive external power bricks cluttering your floor) and a dedicated high-gain antenna supporting 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
- Expandable Storage: Equipped with a lightning-fast NVMe SSD, but also includes a built-in microSD slot for easy storage expansion.
How to Buy One: The Anti-Scalper Lottery
To combat the inevitable army of reseller bots and scalpers, Valve is explicitly bypassing the traditional “first-come, first-served” midnight panic. Instead, they are running a randomized reservation process.
To weed out burner accounts, you must have a Steam account in good standing with at least one purchase made prior to April 27th, 2026.
Here is how the timeline works:
- Sign Up Now: Head over to the official Steam Machine Product Page right now and select the model or bundle tier you want.
- The Deadline: You can submit your entry anytime from now until Thursday, June 25th at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (which translates to Friday, June 26th at 3 a.m. AEST for Aussie gamers). Speed doesn’t matter; an entry at the last second has the same weight as an entry on day one.
- The Draw: Once the window shuts, Valve will run a one-time randomization algorithm to determine the queue order.
- The Notification (June 25th PT): You will receive an email letting you know if you landed a spot in the Reservation Queue (securing a unit in your name) or if you’ve been placed on the Waitlist for future production runs.
The very first batch of purchase invoices will hit lucky reservation holders on Monday, June 29th, with units shipping directly from Valve across the US, Canada, UK, EU, and Australia. (Gamers in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong will be handled locally via authorized distributor KOMODO).
