Summary: SoundPEATS Clip1 is an affordable and well-made device for those who are not too picky when it comes to their audio devices. It’s not the best open-ear buds out there, but it's definitely a good one.

Affordable Quality

Since I was a teenager, I’ve experimented with all sorts of headphones and earbuds, but traditional in-ear designs never worked for me—they often led to irritation and ear infections. That’s why the SoundPEATS Clip1 open-ear Bluetooth earbuds stood out, and to be honest, they did not disappoint!

SoundPEATS Clip1 has great sound quality for an open-ear earbud, which was pretty surprising. In-ear buds can create some sound insulation and noise cancellation due to their intrusive nature, but for a headphone that is not positioned inside the ear canal, Clip1 delivers decent volume and quality.

I usually listened at 50–70% volume while working in the office, with all the daily noise and chatter, and the music and podcasts I was playing were clear and enjoyable.

The earbuds support Dolby audio and Sony’s LDAC codec for fast high-res audio transfers—which was the only way I could connect them to my TV. The only downside of the Dolby feature is that it is directly tied to the mobile app, so it’s unavailable when connecting to audio sources outside your phone.

When it comes to connection, SoundPEATS Clip1’s Dual Device Connection feature is quite handy, allowing the earbuds to connect to two devices at the same time and switch output seamlessly by stopping playback on one device and starting it on the other. The Bluetooth connection is very stable, with a range of up to seven meters depending on the environment. The only downside is that Clip1 takes longer than usual to connect to a source.

SoundPEATS Clip1 has excellent battery life. The buds can run nonstop for around six to eight hours depending on volume, and they can be fully recharged in about 30 minutes. The charging case—though it looks quite cheap—can fully charge them at least four times, with some extra juice left over. The case itself can be fully charged in 45 minutes using a common 25W USB Type-C phone charger. Altogether, a fully charged set of SoundPEATS Clip1 guarantees up to 35 hours of playback, which is more than enough for most users.

Comfort is perhaps the most controversial aspect of SoundPEATS Clip1. On one hand, the earbuds fit well and won’t fall out even during intense physical activities such as running. They are also better for ear hygiene and health compared to traditional in-ear buds. Another plus is that there is no left or right designation—the earbuds intelligently switch audio channels based on which ear they’re placed in. That means you don’t need to worry about wearing them incorrectly when in a hurry. However, after long periods of continuous use—like three hours—they can cause some pain in the auricle. Even after a week of use, I occasionally felt discomfort. The touch controls are also not very accurate, sometimes requiring multiple taps to play or stop, and occasionally failing to register.

Final Thoughts

SoundPEATS Clip1 is an affordable and well-made device for those who aren’t too picky about their audio gear. The sound quality and battery life are excellent, while the looks and comfort involve some compromises. The seamless dual-device connection, support for high-quality audio codecs, and IPX5 water resistance are all handy features, especially at the A$86.99/£75.99 price point. It’s not the best open-ear earbuds out there, but it is definitely a good one.
