4.8

Game away!

Impulse Gamer was given an exclusive stay at Melbourne’s first hotel gaming room courtesy of the View Melbourne that has been purposely designed for gamers. It’s basically like finding the “Super Star” from the Super Mario Bros. game which impressively upgrades your traditional 4-Star hotel room into a gaming paradise that is not only a must stay for gamers but also streamers and families. Just be warned that one night is not enough…

The View Melbourne – 562 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne VIC 3004

The View Melbourne Gaming Room was made in collaboration with MSI (a world leader in gaming) who provides guests with a high-end PC gaming rig with two 27-inch monitors plus all the gaming peripherals and regalia needed to get your game on. From a console perspective (don’t worry), the View Gaming Room comes with a 55” Apple TV with a Nintendo Switch, 4 Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers and a booming Samsung S Series sound bar. Additionally it’s quite a large room at 35 square metres.

PC Gaming Setup

  • Top of the line MSI MEG Trident X2 computer
  • 2 x 27-inch 170Hz MSI Esports gaming monitors
  • Extensive game collection, majority of which are free to play.
  • Extremely fast Ethernet connected internet
  • MSI gaming chair with high-grade velvet sides and race car style leather and stitching
  • MSI gaming headset
  • MSI gaming mouse and keyboard
  • Xbox controller
  • Logitech speaker system
  • Elgato streaming gear including microphone, controller, key light and face cam

Supporting your gamer inspired the stay is the room itself.

Around the borders of the ceiling are smart LED strip lights which allow you to change the colour of the room plus an eye catching collection of gaming memorability displayed in a case. This includes the Nintendo Switch console, Funko Pop figures and two figures – Mario and Bowser whose arm is sticking out the case as a cool twist.

Hanging near the giant king size bed are pictures with a handful of popular Nintendo characters, Nanoleaf smart lights and last but not least are neon signs with Sonic (a classic gaming character) and one of a gaming Mantra – Eat Anime. Game. Repeat. While the usual hotel snacks are available in the room, there is a large glass Red Bull Fridge that is stocked with all the energy drinks you need, including water, software drinks and alcohol of course.

Oh… there’s also a popcorn machine!

Gaming… gaming and more gaming!

The View Melbourne Gaming Room does an exceptional job at delivering a wide variety of PC games, even some of the latest such as Starfield, Mortal Kombat 1 and Hogwarts Legacy. And yes, you can log onto your accounts like Steam, Battle.Net or Epic Games to download your own games library as you have access to a high speed 800Mbps internet connection.

In relation to privacy, View Melbourne completely wipes and re-installs the software after each guest and should you have any issues, you are looked after with technical support. The View Melbourne also gives you an information sheet prior to entering your room with all the login details. Another highlight of this PC setup is the comfortable and adjustable MSI gaming chair that allows for longer than long gaming (and streaming) sessions… work is totally optional.

A taste of the PC gaming experience

Being a gamer since the pixel dinosaurs roamed the lands – I was more than impressed at the gaming rig that was supplied by the View Melbourne. It flawlessly played the latest games without missing beat and whether that was triple A titles or Indie titles, it was fast (high frames per second) without any stutter or frame tearing at maximum detail settings. So while I was gaming my children were totally immersed on the Nintendo Switch playing Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Party and Super Smash Bros Ultimate!

Another highlight is that as new games come out, the View Melbourne will ensure it follows suit and here is a sample menu below;

Gaming deliciousness!

Although you will probably spend most of your time gaming or streaming, the king size which splits into two king singles is super comfortable as was the sofa couch. Add in a spacious bathroom with a shower and separate bath, it will make you feel quite pampered when you’re winding down.

If you do want to venture out for a meal, there is fine dining at Woods Restaurant (perfectly cooked steaks) or you can get something more casual at the Hop Garden. Woods Restaurant also has an extensive breakfast buffet from 7am to 10am and both dining venues offer 24-hour room service.

Final Thoughts?

If you’re looking to “level” up your hotel stay from a true gaming perspective, the View Melbourne Gaming Room is the perfect panacea to deliver everything you need for this experience. So whether you’re a visitor to Melbourne, attending a convention like PAX or just need some time away for gaming, the View Melbourne Gaming Room is the perfect gamer getaway for people of all ages!

Brilliant!
