Sunday a fun day at Oz Comic-Con Sydney

The first ever Oz Comic-Con event in Sydney wrapped yesterday, with day two of the massive pop culture convention providing entertainment, fun, laughs and lasting memories for Sydney’s geeks, comic book lovers, gamers, sci-fi fans and families – continuing the excitement of day one the moment doors opened.

As with Saturday, Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star, Orlando Bloom was a big hit with attendees, appearing on stage to a packed auditorium of hundreds of fans. The legendary William Shatner proved to an equally big draw, while Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa was another superstar guest that fans flocked to meet.

Other celebrities taking part in photograph and autograph opportunities, along with exclusive Q&A panels were The Hobbit’s Dean O’Gorman and Stephen Hunter, Eureka’s Colin Ferguson and Kavan Smith, and X-Men and Twilight star Booboo Stewart.

Buffy the Vampire Slayers’ Nicholas Brendon and Emma Caulfield both took to the stage in front of rooms of excited fans eager to see their favourite characters, while a reunion took place at the Veronica Mars panel with Jason Dohring, Michael Muhney and Percy Daggs III.

An impressive line-up of voice actors were at the event  – Jim Cummings (the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger), Bill Farmer (the voice of Goofy and Pluto), Monica Rial (Bulma in Dragon Ball Z), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles from Spongebob Squarepants) and Paul Eiding (Grandpa Max in Ben 10).

Now in its third year, Oz Comic-Con continues to prove its reputation as a leading player in Australia’s entertainment expo mix, with the success of the inaugural Brisbane and Sydney shows this September showing that there is a big push for pop culture events of this scale on Aussie shores.

Event Director, Rand Ratinac, believes that Oz Comic-Con will continue to grow each year, bringing fans even more exclusive experiences and opportunities to meet international celebrities. “It’s the first time Oz Comic-Con has come to Sydney and we have been embraced with open arms. It’s so exciting to see such a positive response from Sydney’s pop culture fans. The Sydney event has been a blast and we can’t wait to see everyone again in 2015 – we’re already planning a show that’s set to rival this year’s successes” said Ratinac.

2014 has been a mammoth year for Oz Comic-Con and a fantastic year for fans of pop culture in this country – with successful Oz Comic-Con events in Perth (March 29-30), Adelaide (April 5-6), Melbourne (July 5-6), Brisbane (September 6-7) and now Sydney (September 13-14), as well as a sold-out Sydney Q&A with British superstar Benedict Cumberbatch (April 12-13). 2015 is now on the radar and it’s set to be even bigger and better at Oz Comic-Con.
