Samsung brings the world of mobile virtual reality to Australia with the Gear VR

Gear VR to offer an immersive experience using Galaxy Note 4

Sydney, Australia – February 10, 2015 – Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced local availability of its next generation in interactive wearable technology, the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition. Available in February with a RRP of $249, the Samsung Gear VR delivers a completely new way to experience content using a mobile device and extends Samsung’s portfolio of immersive technology.

The result of a partnership with Oculus, a Facebook company and a leader in virtual reality technology, the Samsung Gear VR creates an immersive mobile virtual reality experience that Samsung has never before delivered to Australians.

“The Samsung Gear VR in Australia is the most exciting piece of technology to enter our mobile device portfolio and represents our relentless focus on delivering products that have the ability to change mobile experiences for our customers,” said Arno Lenior – Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Electronics Australia. “The Gear VR will offer Australians the ability to experience content on their Galaxy Note 4 screen using an immersive headset we have developed with the amazing Oculus platform for virtual reality technology.”

“With the Note 4 and Gear VR, users can literally enter into a whole new and immersive virtual world seamlessly, having amazing experiences from any location. This is how we have redefined a smartphone.” Lenior added.

When used in conjunction with the Galaxy Note 4 smartphone device, the Samsung Gear VR delivers an amazing viewing experience through the 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display of Galaxy Note 4. The combined technology provides a stunning and engaging visual experience. The fast response time of the display and low latency, combined with the Gear VR’s sensor technology for head movement tracking, delivers a seamless user experience.

Built with soft, flexible cushioning and lightweight materials, the Samsung Gear VR is comfortable to wear and is also completely wireless, so users can be fully engaged in virtual worlds without being tethered to a computer.

With a selection of optimised virtual reality content made available to download from the global online Oculus store, Australians will be able to enjoy dynamic 360 degree video, games, and educational/experiential content.

The Samsung Gear VR will be available from 10 February 2015 from Samsung Experience Stores in Melbourne and Sydney and online from the Samsung e-store with a RRP of $249.
