RocKwiz Salutes New York

To celebrate the NGV’s Winter Masterpiece’s MoMA exhibition, the team behind much-loved Australian music trivia TV show RocKwiz, Julia Zemiro, Brian Nankervis and The Orkestra plus special guests, will host a one-night-only to salute New York City on 20 July 2018 at Arts Centre Melbourne’s State Theatre.

From Irving Berlin and Frank Sinatra to Patti Smith and The Ramones, New York City has long been a breeding ground for influential music and the backdrop to some of music’s most memorable moments; Bob Dylan in a Greenwich Village coffee shop, Simon and Garfunkel in Central Park, Carole King in the Brill Building, Talking Heads at CBGB’s or Lady Gaga at Madison Square Garden.

Julia, Brian, the legendary RocKwiz Orkestra and a cavalcade of special musical guests will perform signature songs by New York’s finest to celebrate the city that never sleeps. Members of the audience will join musicians at the desks answering the quiz questions that they’re famous for. In the tradition of RocKwiz Salutes The Bowl, this is a RocKwiz show not to be missed.

This winter, leading Melbourne cultural venues and communities will come together to present MEL&NYC, an unprecedented program of events that explore culture, politics, business and everyday experience seen through the eyes of leading New Yorkers and Australians.

Extending across the city from June to August 2018, the program presents live conversations, music, performance, dining, education exchange and community participation. Program partners include: Arts Centre Melbourne, Asia Society, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Melbourne Museum, Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Theatre Company, Melbourne Writers Festival, The Lowy Institute, the National Gallery of Victoria and The Wheeler Centre.

The MEL&NYC festival is supported by the Victorian Government.
