Summary: The realme x3 SuperZoom is a great all-round phone!

The realme X3 SuperZoom is now available in Australia that boasts a plethora of high-end features at a very affordable price. Powered by a 2.96Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor with 12GB of RAM plus 256GB of storage, an all-day 4200mAh battery, the realme X3 SuperZoom, a stunning 6.6″ 120Hz OLED display and camera system made for photography with its 64MP four quad rear camera system, including a periscope zoom that supports a 0.5X to 60X wide zoom.

  • GPU: Adreno 640
  • Screen Resolution: 1080 x 2400

Aesthetically, the realme X3 SuperZoom looks quite stunning for a smartphone which includes its shimmer metallic-like case, crystal clear OLED display with a power button on the right (doubles for Google Assistant and a finger print reader) and two volume buttons on the left. Given  camera system on X3 SuperZoom, the quad cameras on the back do jut out a little due to the optical zoom capabilities of this phone. The selfie-camera is also built into the front screen as well and is a very impressive 32MP. As mentioned, it comes with a 4200 mAh battery with USB-C super charging and audio buffs will totally enjoy its crisp clear speaker system that supports Dolby Atmos.

The setup is like any other Android phone and we were up and running in just a few minutes, including the option of transferring information from your old Android or Apple smartphone. While it is using Android 10, it has been slightly modified by realme to provide the realme UI which makes the O/S more user friendly and accessible.

In terms of security, the fingerprint reader and facial recognition is not only accurate but quite fast to unlock. It also comes preinstalled with all the apps you need to access the net from its Google services (e.g. Play Store, Maps) to a Phone Manager to ensure that the phone is running optimally to Facebook, Opera and OfficeSuite to name a few of the apps available.

Geekbench scored the realme X3 SuperZoom on the higher end with a single-core of 789 and a multi-core of 2669. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G sits at 839 and 3108, whereas the base Galaxy S20 has a single-core of 767 and a multi-core of 2627.

PCMark for Android scored this phone at 11764 which is high, so yes, the realme X3 SuperZoom is a very capable smartphone, not just for running day to day operations but even for gaming.

According to 3DMark, this phone is 96% faster then most phones on the market. Furthermore, the phone scored 6079 in Sling Shot Extreme (Open GL), whereas the Samsung Galayxy S20 Ultra 5G at 7159 and 6436 for the base Galaxy S20.

Games such as Call of Duty, Asphalt 9: Legends, PUBG Mobile and Dead Trigger 2 all performed flawlessly on the X3 SuperZoom. Adding to this was League of Legends, Final Fantasy XIII and my favourite, Injustice 2. Another great aspect of this phone is the ability to easily mirror the phone to your smart TV and for gaming, it really channels that console-like experience. Furthermore as it comes with liquid cooling, it will, well, keep it’s cool while playing all those powerful games.

When it came to photography, I really enjoyed using this phone and more importantly, it was fast and worked well in most conditions. During the day, photos were extremely crisp with vibrant colours. The periscope zoom is rather impressive and while the image does degrade at the full 60x zoom, check out the photos of the moon below. While the periscope zoom features optical image stabilisation that makes it easier to focus, it can be a little tricky at 60x. Low-light and night photography was good and while some tweaking was necessary, I still managed to take some okay photos.

Add in macros and presets (night, video, photo, portrait, 64M), including Google Lens, Time-lapse, Text Scanner, Ultra-Macro, Slo-Mo, Expert and Panorama that as a result, ticks all the right boxes when it comes to photography.

Final Thoughts?

I really can’t fault this phone from realme and if you’re looking for a phone that is not only powerful but looks the part with excellent photographic capabilities, then check out the realme X3 SuperZoom which is also quite affordably priced.
