Radioactive Pictures announce SUNFLOWER theatrical release date and reveal official poster

Radioactive Pictures is thrilled to unveil the official poster for SUNFLOWER, alongside the announcement of its theatrical release date. SUNFLOWER will grace cinemas in all major Australian capital cities starting from July 4th.

SUNFLOWER, a poignant coming-of-age drama written and directed by rising-star talent Gabriel Carrubba, offers a heartfelt exploration of identity and self-discovery. Gabriel Carrubba also serves as a producer alongside the talented Zane Borg. Featuring an up-and-coming cast, starring Liam Mollica (Nowhere Boys) as protagonist Leo, Luke J. Morgan as Leo’s best friend Boof, and Olivia Fildes, as classmate Monique who has a crush on Leo.

Set in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, SUNFLOWER follows Leo as he grapples with the complexities of growing up while concealing a profound truth about his identity. As rumours about his sexuality surface, Leo finds himself at a crossroads, torn between societal expectations and the freedom of embracing his true self. With SUNFLOWER’s nostalgic feel and emotionally compelling storyline, it’s poised to spark meaningful conversations and inspire empathy and understanding among audiences.

Following the film’s successful screenings at the most recent editions of the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane film festivals (amongst many others); SUNFLOWER emerged as an audience favourite, selling out tickets within minutes at MIFF and prompting additional sessions due to popular demand. The film was also selected for the Goes to Cannes LineUp by the Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival.

As the film’s official distributor for Australia and New Zealand, Radioactive Pictures is committed to championing Australian film and showcasing contemporary culture on a global scale. Beyond just distribution, Radioactive Pictures is also focused on developing, and producing, high-quality Australian and New Zealander Drama for both the big and small screens. This commitment was recently recognized at the 2024 Gold Coast Film

Festival, where Radioactive Pictures won Queensland Screen Business of the Year (Emerging).

In the lead up to SUNFLOWER’s release on July 4th, the film’s promotional campaign will unfold throughout June – Australian Pride month. Through targeted marketing initiatives, and social media engagement, Radioactive will amplify the film’s message of acceptance and empowerment by aligning with the spirit of Australian Pride month. Radioactive stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, fostering a culture of acceptance and understanding.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this captivating film that celebrates the power of love, friendship, and the courage to be who you truly are. SUNFLOWER arrives in Australian cinemas on July 4th.
