MICF: Introducing Azeem Banatwalla: A Triple Threat at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival

One of India’s premier stand-up artists, Azeem Banatwalla is set to make his first-ever solo run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this year! His debut show, ‘Triple Threat’ casts a uniquely satirical lens on his lived reality as an ethnic minority trying to have a voice in an increasingly intolerant India.

Through ‘Triple Threat’, Azeem sheds light on the identity crisis of a reluctant Indian, a feminist Muslim, and a censored Comedian. From this distinctly intersectional position, he finds himself trying to speak truth to power – against his better judgement.

Venue: Tasma Terrace 3, 5 Parliament Pl, East Melbourne, VIC 3000

Dates: 8-21 April, 7.10pm

Widely renowned as one of India’s sharpest and most consistent comedy writers and performers, his stand-up videos on YouTube have well over 10 million views over the past decade. His current touring show ‘Minor Celebrity’ has sold over 6,000 tickets worldwide between August 2022 and March 2024, including a run at the Soho Theatre (London).
