Hex-cellent Hues
A cornucopia of colour combinations, fully dynamic and automated lighting scenes, voice assisted commands – it’s fair to say decorative smart lighting has come a long way from its humble beginnings.
In 2025, there are some amazing and creative products in the smart lighting market that help elevate home ambiance beyond flashy RGB lights, coming in a multitude of different panel shapes and forms. For me, the best options come down to affordable price, solid form factor and ample customization features when planning my next smart lighting setup – all areas that the Linkind EP6 Smart Hexagon Panels aim to deliver, and which I was eager to put to the test.

Unboxing and Design
The Linkind EP6 Smart Hexagon Panels are LED hexagonal wall light panels that feature a modular design and dynamic multi-colour support via its RGBIC (Red Blue Green Integrated Circuit).
Each hexagon looks sleek even without any lights turned on and feels sturdy to hold, and its white colouring allows it to blend in quite well as the main accompaniment to your existing television and home entertainment setup, or for more functional mood lighting in other parts of your gaming room.
Out-of-the-box, the base product comes in a set of seven panels that can be scaled up to 21 using the same included controller, along with user manuals, adhesive tape, nails, an AC power adapter, mounting bases, mount links for connections, as well as cardboard templates, an alignment tool and a spirit level to help you position each hexagon into the desired pattern on your wall.
Overall, it is a neat looking package with everything you need at a budget price-point.
Installation and Setup
The Linkind EP6 Smart Hexagon Panels are very easy to install thanks to a number of included templates for panel design (which are especially helpful for the less creatively inclined such as myself), a detailed installation video (included below for your convenience), and the snap on mount links which make connecting each hexagon together fast and easy.
The EP6 Hexagon Panels boast the Any-Side Connect feature, which allows each panel to connect from any of its six edges using the included mount links and link together to form a number of patterns. This affords a large degree of design creativity to configure the panels for wall-mounting in whatever layout works best for your available space, especially compared to other smart lighting panels with fixed-point designs.
For my own installation, I chose to add a bit of pizazz to a neglected dark corner of my theatre room and form the panels in one of the included template designs.
After laying out my panels on the carpet to lock in the design, it is simply a matter of using the provided cardboard templates, spirit level and alignment tool to accurately position the mounting bases on the wall surface with the double-sided adhesive backing. The cardboard templates can then be removed, and mounting bases connected to link each panel together and to the controller and power adapter.
When it was time to press the light panels into place, each hexagon snapped in snugly without any issue, and were very easy to remove when I opted to adjust the controller’s placement which was notable compared to other more expensive smart lighting options, such as the Nanoleaf Shapes Ultra Black Triangles, where in my experience there removing the shape panels for re-adjustment and without wall damage proves to be a more arduous task.
Lighting and Features
To support its modular hardware design on the software side, the EP6 offers full independent colour and brightness control across all six edges of each hexagonal panel using the Linkind AuraScape™ lighting technology. This allows for a lot of different colour combinations, immersive effects and dynamic transitions to suit a variety of different tastes, moods and room aesthetics.
Of course, there’s a lot of smart lighting products out there that already boast and offer similar capabilities, so I wanted to put the EP6 to the test across night and day-time scenarios and try out its included 60+ preset scenes (and some custom-tuned ones) for myself.
I went with a bit of rainbow to brighten up the gloomy Australian winter days!
Like most smart lighting products, the EP6 Smart Hexagons’ controller includes buttons for basic options (power on and off, colour changes, and brightness adjustment) and out-of-the-box, the colours and glow of the EP6 panels are immediately vivid. However, to set more intricate custom scenes and effects, I needed to download the AiDot companion app to my mobile phone.
The AiDot app requires an account (yes, another one) but it’s fairly fast and the Layout Detect feature automatically detects the placement of your lights in real-time so the design appears in the app, ready to further tweak.
Devices are categorized by room, and once within the customization menu, you can set the overall brightness and colour points to your heart’s desire, or play around with a number of pre-set lighting scenes or create one yourself in the DIY menu.
There is even a music menu that allows you to set one of 16 in-built rhythm beats and theme to have the lights react to different songs and genres (played via your phone or other devices) for an added bit of flair when chilling out or showing off the gaming room lighting setup to friends.
After playing around with different combinations, including altering the colours per panel with the app’s design canvas/AuraScape™ mode, the lighting in my experience is very impressive. The colour shifting is seamless, the preset dynamic animations are synchronized and immersive in effect, and the brightness beaming.
The only minor point of difference I experienced compared to other smart lighting products was that transitioning between preset scenes sometimes had a noticeable lag of three seconds or so, but it’s not anything that affected overall usage negatively.
If you are into setting up super intricate and timed lighting effects, the AiDot application also includes a scheduler menu to set the time and days the EP6 Smart Hexagon lights turn on, their brightness, and exact colours, while the routine menu allows for further personalisation (such as controlling the lights based on sunrise, or turning them on if the motion sensors detect motion). Avid users of Amazon Alexa or Google Home will also be happy to know they can link these devices with their smart hexagons for basic voice control commands.
It’s true that none of these aforementioned software features or lighting customization options are anything not already offered in some way or form by other smart lighting panel products. However, considering Linkind has positioned the EP6 Smart Hexagon Panels in the market with a much more accessible price-point and offers seamless cross-device color synchronization with other smart lighting products in their range (strip lights, neon rope lights, smart bulbs and more), the value it presents makes for a fairly attractive smart lighting package for anyone looking to add a bit of flair or lighting decor to their gaming or theater room setup without having to break the bank.
Final Verdict
Along with its ease-of-installation and sleek design, the Linkind EP6 Smart Hexagon Panels have won me over and added even more decorative lighting options for my work-in-progress man-cave, and give the Nanoleaf Triangles installed in the same room a good run for their money.
The 7-pack Linkind EP6 Smart Hexagon Panels currently retail for around $139.99 USD but can be found for much cheaper ($94) due to recent sales. Being based in Australia, I was unable to find the product on sale at any of our local retailers at the time of this review, but I hope to see Linkind and AiDot expand its range into the Aussie market soon as the product and its synchronization options with other Linkind smart lighting devices offer good value and creative smart lighting options for the home.
