Folk Bitch Trio & Swapmeet Announced To Join Wolf Alice On The Steps At The Sydney Opera House This December
UK rockers WOLF ALICE are returning to Australia this December, with the GRAMMY-nominated ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’ outfit set for a summer headline show, On The Steps at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. They have today announced that two of Australia’s most exciting homegrown acts will be joining the bill, with Melbourne based band FOLK BITCH TRIO and South Australia’s SWAPMEET added as special guests.
FOLK BITCH TRIO – Gracie Sinclair (she/her), Jeanie Pilkington (she/her) and Heide Peverelle (they/them) – are known for enrapturing audiences around their home city of Naarm / Melbourne with sensitive and thoughtful arrangements of three-part harmony. What began as an unserious collaboration between three friends has led the trio to share stages with acts such as King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Alex G, Julia Jacklin, and Courtney Barnett. The trio manifest a unique kinesiology of relaxed indie-folk with a quietly confident, assured underbelly. Born out of what they describe as a “mutual love for songwriting and truth-telling”, most significant to their rise and consistently captivating to their craft is the joy they take in making music together – it surges with the power of friends and collaborators executing a unified vision.
SWAPMEET is composed of Venus O’Broin (guitar, vocals), Joshua Doherty (bass), Maxwell Elphick (guitar, drums, vocals) and Jack Medlyn (guitar, drums, vocals). The group met as teenagers in the early 2020s while playing in various projects around the Adelaide music scene and bonded over their love of 90s alternative, citing Pavement and Sonic Youth as early influences. They soon started writing music together and released their debut single in late 2023 and quickly returned with their debut EP, Oxalis, in mid-2024. The EP was well-received, earning nods from Rolling Stone Australia and Triple J, and the band was soon moving out of local pub gigs and into big clubs, opening for international touring artists across the whole of Australia, and recently won the Emerging Artist & Best Performance award at SXSW Sydney for their charismatic live show.
