Bitdefender Fortifies Mobile Security with Elite Anti-Theft and Privacy Protection

BITDEFENDER HQ, Feb. 24, 2014 – Antivirus software provider Bitdefender has today announced the new Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android, fortified with smart anti-theft capabilities, enhanced privacy protection, a sleek new interface and battery-saving agility.

Awarded for best malware detection and usability by independent security testers, the new Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android uses cloud-based technology to warn device owners of malicious web sites, phishing and fraud, while making it easier for users to find, wipe or lock a missing device.

A Bitdefender analysis of 836,021 free Android apps revealed that about a third can access a user’s location, while almost one in 30 can leak users’ e-mail addresses and even more can read contact lists, access photos or read browsing history.

Catalin Cosoi, Chief Security Strategist at Bitdefender says: “Once this data is accessed, the phone’s owner has no control over who sees it and how it is used.

“Modern mobile phones are less of a phone and more of a mobile computer. The unchecked use of apps can pose serious risks to a user’s privacy.”

Bitdefender Privacy Advisor identifies intrusive apps that collect sensitive data such as browsing history, bookmarks, contacts lists, messages and calendar entries or that view saved photos.

Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android also helps users make informed decisions about privacy and data security by indicating which applications use billable device functions, including making phone calls or sending text messages.

Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android is available for download at and can be tested for free for 14 days.
