Australia’s Icons Reunite to Celebrate the Soundtrack of a Generation

MASTERS OF POP

Australia’s golden era of pop is roaring back to life as some of the nation’s most celebrated musicians unite to form Masters of Pop — a powerhouse super-group dedicated to reviving the energy, joy and unmistakable sound of the 1970s.

The lineup reads like a who’s who of Australian music royalty:

–  Jerry Speiser – the driving force on drums from Men at Work

  • Tony Mitchell– legendary bass guitarist from Sherbet
  • Tim Gaze– guitar virtuoso from Rose Tattoo
  • Peter Cupples– the unmistakable voice and acoustic guitar of Stylus
  • Steve Mulry– powerhouse vocalist and brother of the late Ted Mulry (TMG)
  • Michael “China” Walker– master of piano and guitar from JPY & The AllStar Band
  • Sam McNally– the renowned keyboardist  from Stylus

Executive Producer behind Masters of PopMichael “China” Walker reminisced over the last 40 years  – “I spent my teens watching these guys on Countdown, hoping to live this dream – now these guys are my peers, my friends, and my music family.   The dream came true.

The 1970s were a defining decade for Australian music. Pop ruled the airwaves. Screaming crowds packed venues. Catchy hooks and unforgettable melodies shaped the culture. Every weekend, households across the country tuned in religiously to Countdown and Sounds, with Molly Meldrum steering the nation’s musical heartbeat. TV Week was the teen bible, and the stars of the era became icons.

Masters of Pop brings together the very musicians who lived it, shaped it, and electrified audiences across Australia and the world. These are the real players from the real bands — the artists who wrote, recorded and performed the hits that still spin daily on radio stations everywhere.

But this super-group isn’t about nostalgia alone. It’s a celebration of a time when Australian pop exploded with creativity, personality and fun. It’s about honouring the songs that defined a generation and introducing them to new audiences with the authenticity only the original artists can deliver.

With decades of combined experience, countless chart-toppers and a shared passion for keeping the spirit of the 70s alive, Masters of Pop promises a show packed with hit-after-timeless-hit that they made, fans know by heart, and with a dash of cheeky road stories that spill some secrets from behind the Countdown curtain.

Get ready to relive the magic. Reignite the memories. And experience the soundtrack of Australia’s youth — performed by the legends who made it.
