David O’Doherty Review (Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2026) @micomfestival
Who is David
David O’Doherty is a long‑standing favourite of the comedy circuit who has carved out a niche as the festival’s resident master of deadpan chaos. Known for blending dry wit with lo‑fi musical absurdity, he’s the kind of performer who can turn a Casio keyboard, a loose thought or a rogue prop into a full comedic detour. His shows are less “sit back and watch” and more “step into his strange little world,” where the humour is understated, the pacing unhurried, and the punchlines sneak up on you when you least expect them.
The Review
A veteran of the comedy festival from whom you might expect all class, David instead delivered all comfort for his International Festival 2026 performance. We were invited into his “lower basement house” at the Town Hall and encouraged to slip into tracksuit pants to settle in for a relaxed set. What followed was a steady pace of dry, sarcastic quips interspersed with meandering thoughts and bursts of musicality.
His iconic Casio keyboard formed the backbone of a series of life lessons that were both ridiculous and oddly insightful.
Final Thoughts
Highlights included the swinging‑microphone roulette: Will it get lodged in those butt cheeks this time or not? Luckily, it landed as predicted, and David can continue passing the mic to his next comedy victim.
Clever, original and consistently enjoyable.
