If you’re looking for a realistic Star Wars inspired lightsaber that would be blessed by a Sith Lord, it’s hard to look past the amazing collection from DamienSaber.

The Review

The DamienSaber Custom Darth Vader Affordable Version is a surprisingly impressive lightsaber, especially considering its price bracket. The metal hilt immediately gives it a reassuring sense of weight and presence and although it measures only twenty-eight centimetres, it still captures the imposing aesthetic associated with Vader’s design. It feels more substantial than you might expect from an entry level model and the finish is clean and consistent. As Vader himself once warned, “You don’t know the power of the dark side” and this hilt certainly leans into that sense of controlled menace.

Unboxing

Setup is a breeze. Once you’ve unboxed the impressively realistic hilt, simply insert the blade and secure it using the included screws and Allen key. While the main button handles everything from power to blade effects, mastering the specific “press and hold” sequences can be a bit of a learning curve. (*) To bypass those clunky manual controls, I recommend installing the Xeno app as it gives you seamless control over sound fonts, colours and volume right from your smartphone thanks to the Force… err… Bluetooth!

(*) It does come with a manual to support your mastery

In terms of electronics, the choice between XRGB 3.0 and Xenopixel 3.0 means you can tailor the experience to your budget and preferences. The XRGB option offers a solid baselit setup with smooth swing and responsive motion detection, while the Xenopixel version elevates things with richer colours, more advanced effects and a noticeably more cinematic feel. Both versions include multiple sound fonts and the familiar hum, clash and ignition sounds that make the experience satisfying. No matter what version you choose, when the blade ignites, it is easy to imagine Vader’s cold assurance, “The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force” or “Impressive… most impressive”.

Although the hilt is compact, the available blade lengths give you additionally flexibility. Whether you prefer a full-length blade for display or a shorter one for handling, the options are there. Further, the construction feels durable enough for light to moderate duelling depending on the version you choose and the rechargeable battery keeps things simple with the included USB-C cable. It is the sort of saber that invites you to ignite it again and again, echoing Vader’s iconic confidence, “I find your lack of faith disturbing”.

Final Thoughts

In the end, this is another well-executed affordable Vader inspired lightsaber from DamienSaber that delivers more quality than its price suggests. It is a strong choice for collectors who want a metal hilt without spending heavily and it works equally well as a display piece or a starter saber for someone getting into the hobby. It captures just enough of that unmistakable Vader presence to make you feel, if only for a moment, like the dark side might be calling.

Brilliant!
