Smart Rings have been around for a little while now and although I love tech, I must admit that I’ve been very sceptical about this technology. We have smartwatches, so why do we need a smart ring? However, when Kogan offered for me to review one of their entry level smart rings, the Kogan Aura Ti, I put aside my own biases and decided to give this tech my full attention. How did perform? Read on!

Firstly, what is a Smart Ring. A smart ring is an electronic ring that uses built in sensors and wireless connectivity to track health metrics such as heart rate, physical activity or stress, provide gesture controls that can be synced to other devices to access all your biometrics. Given the size and how much tech is crammed inside this tiny product, it is quite impressive, however like smart watches and smartphones, there are pros and cons.

Kogan Aura Ti Unboxing

The Kogan Aura Ti is made from lightweight, durable and scratch-resistant Titanium alloy and comes in three colours that include Graphite, Rose Gold and Black with US ring sizes from 7 to 13.

In terms of costs, the Kogan Aura Ti retails for $179AUD (Oct 2025) or $149AUD for Kogan first members and if you don’t know your ring size (like me), you can purchase a ring sizing kit for $10AUD that also comes with instructions to find your best fit.

This $10 can also go towards the purchase of your Kogan Aura Ti which is a win-win situation for the user. After wearing my preferred test sizing ring for 24-hours, the next step was to inform Kogan of my size and just a few days later, the Aura Ti arrived.

Well packed from Kogan, the Aura Ti came with everything I needed to commence my smart ring review from the ring itself, USB-C charging cable that magnetically attaches to the ring and “tiny” documentation with a QR code to scan a link to the QRing app.

Once I downloaded the app, I then proceeded to connect the charger to the Aura Ti to power it on so I could then complete the binding process. Compared to most smartwatch setups and other smart devices, this was one of the simplest setup processes that I have encountered.

The Kogan Aura Ti feels like a ring with Kogan recommending that you wear it on your index finger on your non-dominant hand, however it can also be worn on your middle or ring finger. By wearing it on your index finger, it provides the most accurate health data (heart rate, HRV, SpO₂), since blood flow is stronger here.

It also needs to be a snug but comfortable fit but not too loose as it will impact on the sensors and potentially could slip off. However once on your finger which was my left index finger, the Aura Ti began to monitor my biometrics that I could access via the QRing app.

The QRing app will require some personal information from you such as age, height and weight which is common request across multiple devices in order to maximise the accuracy for the end-user. The QRing app is very easy to navigate and has a well designed user-interface with the main Home screen giving you quick access to Activity, Sleep, Heart Rate, Sport Record, Body Temperature, HRV, Blood Oxygen and Stress. You can then go into each area for a more detailed breakdown with statics and histories.

By default Gesture Controls is disabled as it uses more battery that allows you to control music, videos and eBooks by tapping twice for next song, video or page. It also has find device, take picture and even access to basic games which are a little meh but still showcases the technology. Another useful tab in the app is Activity that gives you a breakdown of current steps, mileage and calories for the day. For data privacy, your personal information is stored on the cloud via the app developer, not just local.

It should be noted that this is not a medical device and the Kogan Aura Ti will not be as accurate as these products. I compared the Aura Ti to two smart watches from Google and Samsung with the smart ring providing similar results. The Aura Ti did say I slept worse (at times) comparede to the smartwatches and the heart rate did appear closer to the results of a finger pulse oximeter that I also tested with the ring. This means that with any non-medical devices, these smart devices should be used as a guide but it is still beneficial to monitor your health and fitness, even providing you with warnings if something may be askew. Nonetheless it provides an excellent snapshot of you throughout the day.

The battery can last up to 7-days but there are several caveats involved as in by enabling more features such as monitoring every 30-minutes or using gesture controls. Thankfully charging is simple and a flat ring will take around 1.5 hours to full charge which can be done while you are relaxing at night. Compared to some other smart rings, the Aura Ti is missing notifications. This means it will not discretely vibrate for phone calls or other notifications such as SMS or apps alerts. Biometrics for the most part were similar to the smartwatches but at times, there were some discrepancies. but again, this is not a medical certified device.

Final Thoughts?

For the price, the Kogan Aura Ti Smart Ring provides excellent value for money that is a well designed device that is not only comfortable but is an excellent digital health assistant that quietly works in the background. Setup was easy and the app is a well-designed program that makes navigating your biometrics a flawless experience. It’s the perfect introductory smart ring for users wishing to dabble into this tech.
