WoW Encounters and Add-ons – A Discussion with Senior Game Director Ion Hazzikostas

World of Warcraft’s latest update for The War Within, 11.1.5, which is now live, introduces a new cooldown manager built into the base user interface. For content update 11.1.7, which will hit the public test realm this week, a new combat rotation assist tool will be available for players to test.

WoW’s senior game director, Ion Hazzikostas, sits down with Maximum, leader of the world first raiding guild, Liquid, and Dratnos, a caster for different WoW events, more notably the Mythic Dungeon International for a special edition of WoWCast. Together, they discuss these new UI features and converse about what a future for WoW encounters would look like with more native tools, improved encounter design notifications and visualisations, and less dependency on community-authored tools.

In this conversation, Maximum and Dratnos review with Ion WoW’s evolution of raid and dungeon encounters over the years and share what would be needed to limit external combat assistance add-ons so players of all levels and experience can enjoy solving the puzzle of a new encounter without the use of those add-ons.

You can check out the conversation here.
