“Australia: Land of Parrots” explores the diverse and spectacular realm of parrots and cockatoos across the many varied landscapes of the island continent. Inhospitable forces of nature – cyclones, drought, flood and fire – shape their lives as readily as habitat destruction and the unwitting abundance of food and water provided by farming practices. From the humble Budgerigar to the giant Palm Cockatoo, these smart, adaptable and stunningly beautiful birds will amaze you. Special features include the documentary “The Making of Australia: Land of Parrots” and a twitchers gallery. David Parer and Elizabeth Parer-Cook are amongst Australia?s most celebrated wildlife filmmakers. Over the years by using special camera techniques and equipment they have captured on film many detailed behavioural sequences, some not filmed previously – including a tammar wallaby birth, platypus courtship and coral spawning. In 1992 they completed „Wolves of the Sea’, a documentary about the natural history of killer whales, and have since gone to produce Terrors of Tasmania, Platypus and Surving Extremes.
