Canon launches two new models in its flagship PIXMA PRO range

The PIXMA PRO-10 and PIXMA PRO-100: the professional grade A3+ Photo Printers that deliver the ultimate in accuracy and precision

SYDNEY, 17 September, 2012: Canon Australia today announced the launch of two new PIXMA PRO series models, the PIXMA PRO-10 and PIXMA PRO-100, introducing improved colour reproduction, and unparalleled print accuracy and output. Featuring an EOS-inspired design, the stylish models allow for the production of high-quality prints in colour and monochrome, perfect for professional photographers and serious amateur photographers who demand the very best in print quality, speed and accuracy.

Supporting 1200ppi (Pixels Per Inch), the largest ppi input data on the market, Canon PIXMA’s new PRO printers have been designed to meet photographers’ demands for higher quality, corresponding more closely to the increasing number of pixels of today’s digital cameras. With fast print speeds, and no need to switch or swap between black ink tanks, the new PIXMA PRO printers are also incredibly efficient and the ideal photo printing solution.

“Canon prides itself on being able to offer a complete input-to-output photographic solution for professional and serious amateur photographers,” said Ben Crosariol, Canon PIXMA Brand Manager, Canon Australia. “With these additions to the PIXMA PRO range, photographers can be sure that the quality they work hard to achieve with their captured images is preserved and brought to life perfectly when printed.”

New improved colour systems for ultimate accuracy

The PIXMA PRO-10 runs with a ten colour ink system, and uses the new Chroma Optimiser to enhance black density and produces a colour gamut comparable to the top of the range PIXMA PRO-1.  Unlike conventional methods, Chroma Optimiser reduces the unevenness of the bumps between ink droplets, smoothing and flattening the surface, producing unparalleled uniform glossiness and a reduced bronzing effect.

Chroma Optimiser enables photographers to deliver richer images and professional print quality with accurate colour and reduced metamerism on coated papers. It reduces the difference in ink droplet height to form a flat and smooth ink layer, evenly reflecting light, deep blacks and bright, saturated colours.

The PIXMA PRO-100 utilises a new eight colour dye ink system with three monochrome ink tanks, increasing the colour reproduction of both black and white and colour prints. The new dye inks provide smoother tonal graduation for improved print quality and improved colour reproduction in dark areas whilst producing vivid and vibrant prints, only achievable with dye ink.

For unsurpassed ink placement and breathtaking print speeds, both models have a market-leading number of print nozzles to deliver ultimate accuracy: the PIXMA PRO-10 has 7860, the most in its category and four times more than its equivalent competitor; and the PIXMA PRO-100 has 6144 nozzles.

New technology delivers superb results

The Optimum Image Generating (OIG) System utilises two major technologies in both products. The first is a sophisticated mixing balance of inks determined from numerous ink combinations and advanced analysis to deliver rich and complex coloured prints. During this analysis, the OIG System carefully calculates the best results for each print mode and paper type used while looking at various image factors including colour reproduction, tonal gradations, black density, low graininess, glossiness, anti-bronzing and anti-metamerism. The second is the balancing of colour reproduction, tonal gradations, and uniform glossiness. The genius and power of the OIG System is truly showcased when the image is printed, exhibited and is seen exactly as envisioned.

In response to requests from photographers across the globe, Canon has introduced a new PRO Mode for both models. This new colour mode creates photo prints by correctly reflecting the image characteristics as seen on the screen by adjusting the colour gamut and other characteristics according to human perception. Conveniently without calibration, PRO Mode ensures users’ printed output colour will match exactly as seen on screen. This feature will ensure users without a Colorimeter will be able to produce prints exactly as they envisaged.

Tools and software for seamless workflow integration

The PIXMA PRO-10 and PIXMA PRO-100 include Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity enabling users to have absolute control of their prints. Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity ensures the printers seamlessly integrate into photography workflows, with the ability to be shared by multiple users, making them perfect for any home, studio or education environment. The new models also include a range of software and tools that seamlessly integrate with professional workflows, making the PIXMA PRO printers the ultimate professional work tools:

  • ICC      Profiles: The new models provide out of      the box support for a large range of ICC profiles not only for Canon      papers but also third party papers, including Ilford, Hahnemuhle, Canson      and Moab, enabling simplified workflow. This feature eliminates the need      for users to create their own profiles, and is another tool perfect for      enthusiast photographers purchasing their first Pro Printer.
  • Print      Studio Pro: a new software that plugs      into a range of third party imaging editing software such as Adobe      Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.
  • Colour      Management Tool Pro: a free      tool available to download from the support menu on the Canon website,      which allows for colour calibration and ICC profile creation with i1Pro      without UV cutoff, with UV cutoff and Color Munki Photo and Color Munki      Design.
