The “Wellness” craze/industry is in full force these days and whilst it’s best to be cautious about jumping on any influencer promoted regime… it can be useful to be more aware of your overall health and thankfully there are plenty of products to help with that, not all of them with a high price tag.
The V-Fitness Smart Band is a modestly priced device that offers quite a lot of tracking options. The most common item for fitness watches and health bands to track is your heart rate and that is certainly useful for keeping track of how you are doing generally or for monitoring your performance during sporting activity. But with the V-Fitness Smart Band you also get measurements of your:
Activity (you can select from a number of presets such as walking, running and oddly separately listed Barbell and Dumbbell etc)
Sleep, whilst wearing the band it will track your sleep quality, noting how long you spent asleep and the level of sleep etc.
Blood Oxygen
Blood Pressure
Heart Rate Variance
Stress.
I’m always curious as to how accurate these devices are and reports vary as to the accuracy but they do seem to compare favourably to commercial monitors. I would say I’m a bit sceptical of the stress measuring… not necessarily on its accuracy of what it is testing but more the benefit of it. I say that because by measuring it in reasonably quick succession I got results that were more or less opposite ends of the scale so either I get stressed and then calm again very quickly or the results should be taken with a grain of salt (somewhat like a mood ring).
However, I had donated plasma recently and a side benefit of that is they take your blood pressure reading and it was quite close to what the V‑Fitness Smart Band stated which could simply be due to the two results being taken at slightly different times rather than concurrently… so that’s a good indication that it probably does a good job of tracking that.
As with all of these things I think they serve a purpose, being aware of your general health statistics but they should also be used cautiously in the sense that if you have any concerns for your health you should visit a medical professional rather than relying on a fitness tracker to ascertain if you are healthy or not. For the sake of gathering general and seemingly reasonably accurate stats of how your health is tracking over time the V‑Fitness Smart Band is quite good. Getting an overview of what your day‑to‑day activity levels are can help you better understand what level of fitness you are at, whether you should think about being more active or if you are perhaps experiencing any unusual heart activity. Again, the Smart Band might be able to indicate there is something worth investigating but always check with a medical professional if it indicates anything abnormal about your health.
I would say it might be wise to not wear the V-Fitness Smart Band 24 hours 7 days a week… despite it being advertised as being able to be used this way… I found after about three days I was starting to get a bit itchy around the band and I did find I had it perhaps a little too tight for one duration of use. To be fair the webpage and instructions do mention that you should keep the band clean and dry and not attach it too tightly. I would argue that it would be hard to keep it perfectly dry and clean if it is being worn 24/7… but it does come with a second strap so you could at least have one for more energetic activity and one perhaps for more sedate wearing.
Final Thoughts:
Overall I was quite impressed with the V-Fitness Smart Band. Though it’s best to use the results as a guide, rather than clinically accurate, it is interesting to track your health stats and look at them over time. For those who are trying to adjust their weight it can be very handy to see where you are succeeding and where you might need to put in more work. For people who love stats or just to have an overview of how their general health is going, I would say the V-Fitness Smart Band could be a good option that won’t break the bank.
