Undeniably Tides of Torment, Creative Assembly pushes Total War: WARHAMMER III into its next phase, delivering a DLC that leans heavily into new mechanics and faction identity. Rather than offering simple add‑ons, this expansion introduces three Legendary Lords, the Sea Lord Aislinn, Dechala the Denied One and Sayl the Faithless, each of whom meaningfully reshapes how their faction plays on the campaign map.

The trio brings genuinely different approaches to conquest. Sayl, representing Norsca, thrives on manipulation and chaos‑driven rituals and hs campaign revolves around pillaging, constructing chaos altars and unleashing long‑term debuffs that ripple across enemy factions. Dechala, true to Slaanesh, offers a fast, aggressive style built around corruption and a Decadence system that fuels buffs and battlefield enhancements. She’s the most immediately accessible of the three, rewarding constant forward momentum. Aislinn, the High Elf admiral, takes a more deliberate route. Commanding from his dragonship, he blends naval dominance, diplomacy and economic expansion, though his Asur Domination mechanics require a bit of learning before they click.

Together, these lords broaden the tactical possibilities of Immortal Empires, giving long‑time players new ways to approach territory control, faction development and late‑game strategy. Their animations, faction themes and campaign structures show clear care in their design, though the complexity of their systems means this DLC is best suited to players who already understand WARHAMMER III’s foundations.

The DLC launches alongside Update 7.0, one of the most significant patches the game has received. The update introduces a free Slaanesh character, the Masque, built around a Tempo‑based ability system as well as a complete Norsca overhaul, refreshed mechanics for High and Dark Elves, a built‑in mod manager and a major shift for the community: permanent free access to Immortal Empires for anyone who owns WARHAMMER I & II. Add in a wide range of balance tweaks and bug fixes, and the update alone gives returning players plenty to explore.

Visually, the new content fits seamlessly into WARHAMMER III’s world. The battles remain dramatic, the units slot naturally into their factions and the overall presentation continues to carry the unmistakable Warhammer style. While some players have reported issues since launch, the DLC and update feel cohesive and well‑integrated.

Final Thoughts?

Tides of Torment isn’t the largest expansion the series has seen but it adds meaningful depth and variety. For veterans looking for fresh challenges and new campaign styles, it’s a strong addition and with the sweeping changes in Update 7.0, it helps set the stage for the next era of WARHAMMER III as the franchise marks its 25‑year milestone.
