SPINBACK 2025: A YEAR ON ZWIFT

Today, when Zwifters log into Zwift Companion, they will find their personalised Zwift Spinback video waiting for them to review, analyse and celebrate their achievements on Zwift from 2025. Zwifters have been busy in 2025 racking up the kilometres, climbing virtual mountains and sharing social experiences. Let’s dive into some of the numbers from the year.

In 2025, 1.3 billion kilometres were ridden in Zwift which is equivalent to riding round the Earth’s equator some 25,000 times. Unsurprisingly, with the shorter and darker days in the Southern hemisphere, August is the most popular month to rack up the kilometres in Australia. In August 2025, Australians rode a staggering 5.8 million kilometres.

While it’s often the mountains that grab headlines,  the data shows the flatter routes to be the most ridden with the top three being Tempus Fugit, Tick Tock and Flat Route – all in Watopia. That said, Zwifters haven’t exactly shied away from climbing either with 11.5 billion metres climbed through 2025. On 5th January, a dizzying 78 million metres ascended in a single day.

Zwift’s community makes riding the platform special. The roads of Watopia and beyond are safe, social spaces and this also pulls through in our Spinback report with over 545 million Ride Ons given during the year. 20.1 million workouts were logged as Zwifters worked hard to improve their fitness. For those looking for competition, 2.2 million race activities were ticked off, whether that was a race, time trial or a team time trial. If you’re aiming to beat the clock or chase your teammate’s wheel in the Zwift Racing League, racing continues to prove it is one of the simplest ways to discover previously untapped power in your legs.

Another popular way to ride through Zwift is alongside the RoboPacers, Zwift’s much-loved ride captains who lead paced group rides round the clock, 365 days a year. Jacques, Genie and Constance, are the three fastest Robopacers who whiz round Zwift at over 3w/kg. If you’ve spent time riding with any of these pacers, chapeau! Only 12% of the total hours with Robopacers are spent with these top-end pacers. Whether 3.2w/kg is your target warm-up or your desired race pace almost 500,000 hours was spent cranking out those efforts. The vast majority of hours – 60% in fact – are spent with either Miguel (1.8w/kg), Maria (2.2 w/kg) and Coco (2.6 w/kg).

With 12 worlds available to explore, it is no surprise that the top activity type globally is free ride. Across all activity types, the average session lasts 59 minutes. Events continue to be a popular way to explore all of what Zwift has to offer with the biggest participation numbers for Tour de Zwift, Zwift Unlocked and The Big Spin.

In the virtual cycling ashes series, although the Aussies are riding high on their recent cricket wins, it’s the UK that took the win in virtual cycling for 2025. UK Zwifters rode over 173 million kilometres this year, as opposed to Australia’s 52 million. Not only were the Poms riding further, they also rode higher, preferring the mountains of Watopia over the flats, climbing 1.4 billion metres as opposed to the Aussies 417 million. And when it came to racing… they had the Aussies covered too – 437,811 races to 89,274. To add salt to the wound for the Aussies, consider another Commonwealth sporting powerhouse across the pond. The Kiwis rode 11 million kilometres, climbed 95 million, and raced 23,834 times – adjust these numbers for population and they too come out on top of the Aussies. Although Aussies can feel confident about their ability at the wicket, it’s clear that on the roads of Watopia there is work to be done. The one thing that all three of these great sporting nations have in common is that like the majority of the world, they all prefer to Zwift on a Tuesday.
