For fans of Spider-man, Seagate have the perfect external hard drive courtesy of their limited 2TB Seagate FireCuda External Hard Drive Spider-man Special Edition which looks amazing (Spider-man) or should I say spectacular (Spider-man). All puns aside, this special edition drive successfully pays homage to this legendary hero and webslinger created by the late great Stan Lee.

The drive also channels those comicbook aesthetics and I don’t think Seagate could have chosen a better picture of Spider-man with the unit perfectly sized at 145mm x 122.5mm x 80mm with a spider-like weight of only 0.167 grams. As the drive supports a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface, it simply connects into any USB port which means it is compatible with the PC and Xbox / PlayStation gaming consoles.

It also comes with a USB 3.0 cable, including some cool Spider-man stickers, quick start guide, Rescue Data Recovery Services and if you want to use the RGB lighting features, you do need to install the Seagate Toolkit. For additional peace of mind, the drive has a generous 3-year warranty.

Unboxing

As you can see from the unboxing photos, the drive looks spectacular and I love the metallic embossed Spider-man on the front of the external casing. The colour scheme is also perfect with the red and blue of Spider-man and to connect it to your PC or console, you simply plug the included cable into the device and presto, you’re ready to go.

Once the drive is powered, it automatically lights up and if you want additional colours, you do need to install the free Seagate Toolkit Software for that 16.8 million colour experience.

We tested the drive with CrystalDiskBenchmark and for its external connection via USB 3.2 Gen 1, it scored as expected which is a limitation of this technology. As a result, it’s a stylish drive for backups, especially for comic or Spider-man fans and while you can use it on next-gen consoles, you can only play previous generation games on it.

The 2TB Seagate FireCuda External Hard Drive Spider-man Special Edition is a true celebration of our friendly neighbourhood Spider-man and will definitely hold a special place on your desk or next to your gaming console.
