eScooter time!
Before we get into the crux of this review and never having rode an electric scooter before, I’m officially a Segway convert. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Segway Ninebot Max G3 and had a blast scootering around. At its core, the Segway Ninebot Max G3 which is a premium electric scooter has been designed to meet the needs of both commuters and recreational riders. Segway has also equipped the Max G3 with a 2.4-inch TFT display that shows speed, battery life, riding mode and trip data in real time and it can even notify you of incoming calls. The scooter integrates with Apple Find My for theft protection and Segway’s AirLock system allows Bluetooth unlocking and autonomous locking.

At around 24 kilograms the Max G3 is heavier than smaller commuter scooters but the weight reflects its larger battery, stronger frame and suspension system. With that said, the Segway Ninebot Max G3 is not the most portable scooter but it is one of the most complete packages on the market and in Australia, it is priced at $2,199 (*).
(*) Segway currently has an exclusive sale until October 15, priced at $1,799 that includes a complimentary helmet and lock.
The Max G3 is powered by a 2000W peak motor that delivers quick acceleration and the ability to climb slopes of up to 30 percent. It can reach 25 km/h in just 2.4 seconds which makes it feel responsive in stop-start city traffic. The 597Wh battery works in conjunction with Segway’s SegRange system to optimise efficiency and extend range. In eco mode the scooter can travel up to 80 kilometres at a steady 15 km/h while in sport mode it manages around 65 kilometres at 25 km/h which is impressive.
For those who need even more distance there is an optional 460Wh external battery that extends the range to as much as 135 kilometres. Recharging is another highlight and the built-in fast charger can fully recharge a flat battery in about 3.5 hours which is significantly faster than many scooters in its class.
Setting up the Segway Ninebot Max G3 is straightforward and designed to get you riding quickly while ensuring safety and connectivity. Once you unbox and unfold the scooter, you’ll need to download the Segway‑Ninebot app by scanning the QR code located on the scooter or in the user manual.
.
After installing the app, you need to create or log into your Segway account, then enable Bluetooth on your phone. The app will then search for nearby devices and once it detects your scooter, you can pair it by following the on‑screen instructions.
From there you can use the app to check battery status, adjust riding modes, update firmware and even lock or unlock the scooter remotely. This initial setup ensures that your Max G3 is both safe to ride and fully integrated with Segway’s smart features.
As to the ride? Comfort and safety are also central to the design of the Segway Ninebot Max G3. The scooter features dual hydraulic suspension at both the front and rear which smooths out bumps and uneven surfaces. The 11-inch self-sealing tyres automatically close punctures up to four millimetres in diameter which reduces maintenance worries. Dual disc brakes provide strong stopping power and the IPX6 water resistance rating ensures reliable performance even in wet conditions.
.
If you plan to ride the Segway Ninebot Max G3 in Victoria it is important to understand the local road rules that include the following;
- Riders must be at least 16 years old
- A helmet is mandatory and it must be an approved bicycle helmet that is securely fitted and fastened.
- The maximum speed limit for e‑scooters is 20 km/h and even though the Max G3 is capable of 25 km/h, you must keep your speed within the legal limit
- You may ride on roads with a speed limit of 60 km/h or less, as well as on bike lanes and shared paths, however riding on footpaths is prohibited.
- Scooters must have at least one working brake and a bell or horn
- At night or in low‑visibility conditions you must use a white front light, a red rear light and a red rear reflector.
- Carrying passengers, using a handheld phone, riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or leading an animal while riding are all prohibited.
The Segway Ninebot Max G3 meets the equipment requirements with its dual brakes, lights and reflectors, but riders must take responsibility for wearing a helmet and keeping within the 20 km/h speed cap.
It should also be noted that police actively enforce these rules and fines apply for non‑compliance, particularly for not wearing a helmet, riding on footpaths or exceeding the speed limit. However with that out of the way, the Segway Ninebot Max G3 goes from 0 to fun in seconds … well 25km in 2.4 seconds!
Final Thoughts?
The Segway Ninebot Max G3 may not be the kind of scooter you casually sling over your shoulder on the way up a flight of stairs but what it lacks in portability it more than makes up for in sheer capability. This is a machine built for riders who want the full package out of their electric scooter: lightning‑fast charging that gets you back on the road in just a few hours, a range long enough to turn a quick commute into a weekend adventure, and suspension that smooths out bumps so well you’ll wonder if the streets have been freshly paved. Add in its smart connectivity features from app integration to theft protection and you’ve got a scooter that feels less like a toy and more like a dependable travel companion. It’s a premium option with the performance to back up its price tag, and for anyone who values reliability, comfort and a touch of futuristic flair, the Max G3 delivers in spades.
Highly Recommended!
