Score

Summary: The REDMI Note 15 Pro + 5G is an exceptionally strong mid-range smartphone with its unbeatable value-to-performance ratio and durability.

4.5

Exceptional!

The REDMI Note 15 Pro + 5G is a mid-range smartphone that is not only affordably priced but also boasts some notable technical specifications, including several high-end features. In essence, it is a “sensible upgrade” for those on a budget who are still seeking a smartphone that performs well and offers future proofing. For $799 AUD, you get a 6.83-inch 1.5K (2772 x 1280) CrystalRes AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 200MP main camera, a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery plus IP66/68 dust and water resistance. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage, it has enough power to keep you going through all parts of your life.

Aesthetically, the phone feels more premium than its price suggests, particularly with its distinct two-tone design. It comes in a handful of colour options including Black, Glacier Blue and Mocha Brown (reviewed). The design is notably symmetrical, especially around the camera module, which gives the back a clean yet stylised look and I love the textured feel of the Mocha Brown finish. The IP66/68 rating provides a significant power-up in terms of protection from accidental spills, heavy rain and even immersion in fresh water for up to 30 minutes plus dust resistance, almost apocalyptic proof. Given its size, 163.34mm x 78.31mm x 8.19mm, it feels good in the hand and is quite lightweight at just 208 grams.

Setting up the REDMI Note 15 Pro + 5G is straightforward whether you are coming from Android or iOS. On first boot, the setup wizard walks you through connecting to Wi-Fi, signing into your Google account and restoring apps and data. Android users can use Google’s built-in “Set up & restore” flow via cable or Wi-Fi while Xiaomi’s own migration tools help bring across call history, messages and photos. Running on HyperOS (Android 15), the device comes with all standard Google Play Services preinstalled and only a small amount of bloatware that can be uninstalled. For updates, it supports four years of Android OS upgrades and six years of security patches to help cement its future proofing

Depending on the model you purchase, the Note 15 Pro + 5G comes with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor paired with either 8GB or 12GB RAM, both of which are more than adequate for most users. In everyday use, the smartphone is very responsive whether you are surfing the net, streaming music or multitasking. While it is not a “hardcore” gaming phone, it handles most modern titles with minor tweaks to the settings. If you are looking for more power, definitely go for the 12GB model.

To see what the hardware could really do, we pushed it through 3DMark and Geekbench 6, two popular benchmark apps.

The benchmark results for the REDMI Note 15 Pro + 5G characterise it as a mid-range performer that handles legacy graphics quite well but struggles with modern high-intensity stress tests. In the demanding Steel Nomad Light and Wild Life Extreme benchmarks, the device landed in the lower percentiles (5% and 18% respectively) with the former averaging a sluggish 2.98 FPS. Performance stabilises in the standard Wild Life test where a score of 4,255 places it above 53% of all users. Its most impressive showing is in the older Sling Shot Extreme (OpenGL ES 3.1) test; a score of 5,375 outperforms 88% of the database, indicating the hardware is well suited for older titles or less optimised mobile games. Throughout testing, the device maintained impressive thermal consistency, hovering around 36°C to 37°C, which suggests it can sustain its performance levels without significant overheating

Moving to Geekbench 6, the Redmi Note 15 Pro + 5G continues to show impressive mid-range muscle, fuelled by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and a generous 12GB of RAM. The device typically nets a Single-Core score of 1,261 and a Multi-Core score of 3,272, comfortably outpacing its predecessor and holding its own against heavy hitters like the Motorola Edge 70 in its class. These numbers translate to a snappy user experience under Xiaomi HyperOS 2 where the high-performance octa-core architecture ensures that everything from heavy multitasking to moderate photo editing feels fluid. It is a performance profile that strikes a great balance, providing enough power for a “zero-lag” feel in everyday apps without draining that massive 6,500mAh battery too quickly.

The 6.83-inch AMOLED panel is another highlight of the REDMI Note 15 Pro + 5G. Running at FHD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, scrolling and animations feel smooth. It also delivers the deep blacks and punchy colours that LCD-based rivals cannot match. Critically, it features a peak brightness of 3,200 nits, making it perfectly readable even in direct sunlight and the Wet Touch 2.0 technology ensures the screen remains responsive even if your fingers are damp. The screen is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, however a tempered glass screen protector is still a must.

The 6,500mAh battery is built with advanced silicon-carbon technology which replaces traditional graphite to pack much higher energy density into a smaller space. This is how the phone maintains its ultra-slim 8.47mm profile despite its massive capacity. Most importantly for long-term owners, it is rated for 1,600 charge cycles, meaning the battery is designed to stay healthy for over five years, doubling the lifespan of standard lithium-ion batteries. In practice, this results in easy all-day battery life, often stretching into a second day with lighter use.

The camera system is headlined by a 200MP main sensor and it is very much the star of the show. This is a 1/1.4-inch sensor with 0.56μm pixels using 16-in-1 pixel binning to produce large 2.24μm effective pixels for stronger low-light performance and improved dynamic range. It also includes Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and a bright f/1.77 P-lens which helps keep shots sharp even in challenging lighting.

Supporting the main camera is an 8MP ultra-wide lens at f/2.2, giving you added flexibility for landscapes, group shots and creative framing. Together, the system delivers sharp daylight photos, reliable autofocus and colour output that holds up well for a mid-range device, though as expected it will not match $1,500 flagships in extreme low-light or fast-moving scenes.

Video recording on the rear camera reaches 4K at 30 fps with 1080p at 30/60 fps and 720p at 30 fps available for smoother or more storage-friendly options. On the front, the 32MP selfie camera remains more than adequate for social media, video calls and everyday shooting.

Final Thoughts

The REDMI Note 15 Pro + 5G is an exceptionally strong mid-range smartphone with its unbeatable value-to-performance ratio and durability. It succeeds by bringing “flagship-adjacent” features like the eye-searing 3,200-nit screen and specialised silicon-carbon battery tech to a price point that challenges the market. The combination of a silky 120Hz AMOLED display, a powerhouse 200MP camera and enhanced IP66/68 protection at $799 AUD is a smartphone bargain. If you want a modern, rugged and responsive daily driver that is built to last the next five years without breaking the bank, the REDMI Note 15 Pro + 5G is an easy choice.
