PlayStation Paris Games Week Wrap Up

Overnight, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed new and dazzling footage from some previously announced titles, as well as unveiling a host of new games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR during the PlayStation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week 2017.

First up, Sucker Punch Studios, creators of the award winning inFAMOUS franchise, showed off its new open-world samurai epic Ghost of Tsushima. Set in 1274, this sprawling, open-world samurai game sees you journey across feudal Japan with a long bow on your back and katana at your side, slicing your way through overwhelming odds. The showcase trailer gave a glimpse into the power and confidence of the Mongol Empire coming face to face with pure, lethal, samurai determination.

Critically acclaimed studio Naughty Dog showcased mesmerising new footage from The Last of Us II on PlayStation 4 Pro. At its core, The Last of Us II is shown to be still very much about Ellie and Joel, but this reveal showcased several new characters who are integral to their next journey. Much is still a mystery, with more information expected to be released as the studio prepares to reveal the next piece of the puzzle.

Interactive live action drama Erica was also unveiled for PlayLink, with Flavourworks sharing details about this ground-breaking new adventure. Erica is an interactive live action drama, with no 3D graphics at all. This means you are interacting with a film that has no visible interruptions so it feels utterly cinematic. PlayLink opens up the experience to touchscreen devices as a controller, making the game even more tactile, allowing players to feel immersed in her story. Erica is all about touching the world – you can delicately wipe a tear from Erica’s cheek, or flip through pages in a book to dig a little deeper into her world.

London Studio, the team behind The London Heist, announced its new action thriller set in the heart of London – Blood and Truth for PlayStation VR. Blood & Truth takes place in modern day London against the city’s backdrop of glamour and grit, making it the perfect location for a criminal underworld to inhabit. From the moment you put on the PlayStation VR headset, you become Ryan Marks, an elite Special Forces soldier who is on a dangerous mission to save his family from a ruthless criminal overlord. Playing as Ryan, you will come face to face with enemies, uncover secrets and experience the thrill of the chase.

From the creators of Entwined comes a PS4 exclusive, where players can make artwork come to life. Concrete Genie is an action adventure game where players use the Dualshock 4 motion sensor function to effortlessly create stunning landscapes and even your own cast of unique creatures to hang out and play with. Anyone can paint in this game, with each stroke you make turning into beautiful living artwork.

Independent developers weren’t left out in the cold either, thanks to some sizzling new announcements. One of the most acclaimed indie titles of all time is getting a sequel on PS4, with creator Derek Yu showing off an announcement trailer for Spelunky 2to get players in the mood for more system heavy procedurally-generated platforming genius. Drink Box showed off the highly rated Guacamelee 2 with more lofty missions to save time and space in this co-op beat-em-up platformer. 3D platform puzzling gets a beautiful new twist in The Gardens Between by The Voxel Agents, which lets you control time through a journey about childhood friendships.
