Fellow Traveller and Gareth Damian Martin, creator of Citizen Sleeper and In Other Waters, have officially revealed Signet City, a first-person fungalpunk narrative RPG, during the PC Gaming Show.
Signet City is a first-person RPG about a coastal city in decline, in a world where the biological computer outgrew the silicon chip. You are a parasite, born in the brackish waters of the city’s bay, with the ability to inhabit human minds. Guide your hosts, and the city itself, in its final season. From the stained wallpaper of the squats to the towering monuments that dot its skyline, grow through and into this strange city, changing it forever.
Blending first-person exploration with tabletop-inspired narrative RPG design, Signet City offers a unique and rich new world, where the player lives inside the mind of their characters, guiding and feeding-off their emotions and experiences. Inspired by post-punk, 1980s Britain, and weird fiction, this first-person fever-dream is a radically distinct vision for the narrative RPG genre.
Unlike traditional RPG protagonists, players in Signet City exist as a parasite moving through the city’s social body, shaping conversations, influencing inhabitants, and navigating the games beautifully crafted locations. This allows the game to dig deep into the interior lives of the parasite’s hosts, in powerful, affecting prose that has become the signature of Jump Over the Age’s games.
The reveal trailer introduces players to Signet City’s stark black-and-white visual identity, brutalist architecture and post-punk inspirations. The trailer is set to Abandon from Irish garage punk band SPRINTS, the trailer track is rooted in the same underground culture inspiring the game.
While Signet City builds on the authored storytelling, thematic depth, and emotional complexity players connected with in Citizen Sleeper, it also represents a major evolution for Jump Over the Age. The move into first-person exploration, fungalpunk worldbuilding, and a more socially and politically volatile setting creates a distinctly different experience while retaining the deeply human storytelling Gareth Damian Martin’s work has become known for.
Signet City is currently in development for PC via Steam.
