Summary: The OPPO FIND X5 delivers top-end performance but at a fraction of the cost.

4.8

Superb

Welcome to the new OPPO Find X5 that is powered by the performance driven Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 (CPU: Kyro 680, GPU: Adreno 660), has 8GB of RAM plus 256GB of storage which creates a powerful smartphone that really sets itself apart from its competitors. Aesthetically it’s quite a slimline and sleek smartphone that comes in two colours, ceramic white (reviewed) and glazed black with a RRP of $1399AUD (June 2022). It also comes with a 4800mAh (all-day) battery, however with its 80W SUPERVOC technology, it charges the phone to 100% in just 34 minutes.

Additionally, the CPU and GPU combo is perfect for gaming, especially when matched with its customised cooling plus a gaming mode to ensure a stable and fast framerate. So games such as ARK: Survival Evolved, Fornite, Layers of Fear and Call of Duty Mobile all performed very well on the OPPO Find X5 with no issues whatsoever. Supporting the user experience is the high quality AMOLED FHD screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 10-bit color depth of up to 1.07 billion colors. Lastly, this phone has been designed for photography courtesy of high quality camera system that allows for more natural photos plus ultra HDR video for stunning vibrant quality.

The build quality of the OPPO Find X is excellent and measures in at 160.3 mm x 72.6 mm x 8.7 mm with a weight of just 196 grams. While the touch screen takes up most of the front (screen ratio 92.70%), the back has a slightly protruding camera with a silver border around the side edges of the smartphone to add elegance. Needless to say, it’s quite a slimline phone with volume buttons located on the left and the power button on the right. At the bottom is the SIM card tray, USB-C port and the speaker. The only thing missing in its design is a water proof rating, however the more expensive Find X5 Pro does come with this feature. The screen also boasts Gorilla Glass protection to ensure further protection to the high quality screen, however as always, we recommend a tempered glass protector.

Setting up the phone is an easy process and the OPPO Find X5 takes you through a wizard that asks the user a series of questions. Once completed, you are treated to the new Android 12 operating system, however with a twist. That twist is ColorOS 12 which is basically an interface that sits on top of the operating system and gives the user a much more refined experience with some clever smart features. Some of the ColorOS 12 features include easy PC connection, the creation of your very own Omojis based on you, a privacy dashboard to manage permissions plus air gestures to navigate the phone without touching it.

Benchmarks

While boot up, navigating the OS is super fast, we also tested the OPPO Find X5 with AnTuTu Benchmark and 3DMark. AnTuTu scored the Find X5 quite high, noting that its score defeated 65% of users, whereas 3DMark mirrored similarly results, including that the phone was too powerful to run some of the tests. The 3DMark Wild Life test noted that the OPPO FIND X5 is 94% faster than all other phones, whereas the extreme mode scored it faster than 50% of all other smartphones. So what does this all mean? While not the fastest phone on the market, it is still a powerhouse when it comes to performance and gaming.

Photography

The camera system on the Find X5 is a collaboration with OPPO and Hasselblad who are a leading manufacturer of cameras and lenses that together have created an impressive array of photography all in the palm of your hand. As a result, images feel more natural, colours vibrant and importantly, an overall clarity to the images captured.
