Mike Donatelli Interview (WildStar Producer Director)

1. How did you become involved with Carbine Studios?

Some friends of mine from WAR were out here working on an MMO and convinced me to join them. That’s going on 4.5 years ago now and I can honestly say that I have never worked with a more creative or patently insane group of developers.

2. Tell us a little about WildStar?

We’re a Sci-fi MMO that I like to think has a little Firefly vibe to it. We don’t take ourselves too seriously but we are deadly earnest about gameplay. We love MMOs and tried to preserve some familiarity with MMOs we loved

3. How does WildStar differ from other MMORPG’s?

We didn’t set out to reinvent the wheel. We love MMOs, we just wanted to improve on parts that we weren’t so in love with. Vacuum looting, double jump, character customization, housing and Combat are just a few that I think we’ve improved upon greatly. Not to mention our hardcore PvE raids and their PvP moral equivalent, Warplots.


4. What is your favourite character class and why?

The Medic is my favorite. As to why, I think it’s because it plays differently that any healer I have ever played in an MMO. Skill shot heals and telegraph combat makes you fly by the seat of your pants.

5. As a gamer, what is your favourite aspect of WildStar?

One of my most favorite aspects is the combat. Telegraph combat and a limited action set make choices count and prevents combat from getting stale and repetitive, especially in PvP.
