MASAYOSHI TAKANAKA’S AU/NZ TOUR SELLS OUT
Due to overwhelming demand, Live Nation has announced the City Pop Waves: SUPER TAKANAKA WORLD LIVE 2026, with Masayoshi Takanaka’s Australian and New Zealand shows completely SOLD OUT!
This announcement comes as Japan’s most influential guitarist, Masayoshi Takanaka, brings his vibrant, surf-inspired fusion sound to local audiences for the very first time to our shores, with his Sydney and Melbourne shows initially upgraded to larger venues following a wave of demand across Australia and New Zealand.
As Japanese City Pop continues its global resurgence, drawing new audiences through its nostalgic warmth, shimmering musicianship, and retro-futurist aesthetic, Live Nation remains committed to spotlighting the genre’s most influential artists through its City Pop Waves series.
SUPER TAKANAKA WORLD LIVE 2026 offers a rare chance to experience the pioneering guitarist in a series of intimate and powerful performances. A highly anticipated highlight of the tour is the return of Takanaka’s legendary surfboard guitar. This full-size instrument, crafted from a real surfboard, was performed with only a handful of times before being displayed for over a decade. Fully restored for this tour, fans will witness this revived piece of musical history back on stage.
For those who have missed out on tickets to the shows, never fear, as Oh Jean, Record Store Day, and Live Nation, are hosting a Takanaka Pop Up at Oh Jean Records in Naarm, Melbourne, from Saturday 18 to Tuesday 28 April, they are offering fans an opportunity to take a photo with Takanaka’s famous surfboard guitar. Plus, the first 20 people to purchase a Masayoshi Takanaka record in-store will receive an official tour poster.
