Summary: Two of the biggest pop culture phenomenons combine to bring us Lego Star Wars The Exhibition and the results are out of this world (sorry I couldn't resist).

Brilliant Brickwork
May the Fourth doesn’t just mark my son’s birthday… it is also internationally recognised as Star Wars day, so what better day to open (and visit) Lego Star Wars The Exhibition at Melbourne Museum.
Many years ago I remember going in to the city, I think to Myer, for the annual Lego display… I don’t remember much about it but I am pretty sure that Lego Star Wars The Exhibition takes things up to a whole different level. Before even getting into the event you are greeted with a giant Lego X-Wing, as you get closer the logo for the event is made out of Lego with numerous figures filling in the letters.
Eventually a group of people are allowed into a darkened room… moments later screens light up in front and to the sides. LEGO® Certified Professional (LCP), Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught introduces us to the exhibit and gives us a bit of information about what went into bringing it together (over 8 million lego pieces and 25,000+ hours of building). Then the screens change to various moments from the world of Star Wars in Lego form and a curtain above retracts to reveal a giant Star Destroyer and two Tie Fighters move forward with laser blasts lighting up the room. After about 7 minutes the presentation ends and we are directed out and into the main exhibition space.
There is something here for everyone, fans of the original series, the prequels and the series that continue to this day. Famous scenes and characters can be found throughout, all impressively rendered in arguably the world’s most famous and popular building bricks. As you make your way around the various displays there are plenty of easter eggs to find (not least of all minifigs of the Mandalorian and Grogu that if you keep track of you can enter your counts of for the chance to win a prize).
There are a number of interactive elements throughout as well, from building your own droid to your own star ship (that you can scan and watch take part in a battle on a big screen). You can sit on the emperor’s throne or wield a lightsaber. You could easily spend hours engaging in everything there is on offer, from the interactive exhibits to just trying to spot all the detail on the builds.
Final Thoughts?
For Star Wars fans young and old there is a lot to enjoy about Lego Star Wars The Exhibition. The sheer time and effort that has gone into putting this together is impressive… most impressive! Get along and see it for yourself.
