A QUICK CHAT TO JODY HOUSER – STARCRAFT: SCAVENGERS

From Blizzard Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics comes StarCraft: Scavengers #1 on July 25. This horror sci-fi comic comes from the creative minds of Jody Houser (DC Comics’ Mother Panic) and Gabriel Guzmán (Dark Horse Comics’ Mass Effect: Discovery) and promises to thrill StarCraft fans or fans of the genre in general. Impulse Gamer got a chance to talk to Jody about their upcoming comic and this is what she had to say.

Will this comic play into any of the previous games or is this a standalone title set in the same universe?

This story is a standalone title that will work for both fans of StarCraft and those who are new to the universe. All of the characters are brand new and original to the comic.

What can the fans of the video game series expect from this series?

I hope they will find it to be a story that expands the universe they know in some very interesting directions.

What did you find to be the most enjoyable part of taking on this comic?

Working from the perspective of a young, innocent character who has left his backwater home for the first time was new for me. I really loved Caleb and his perspective by the time I wrapped the miniseries.

What inspirations did you use for coming up with the story?

Aside from the usual suspects, I’ve been playing a lot of space-based tabletop RPGs in recent years, and have definitely drawn inspiration from those.

Is there anything you can tell us about the story while remaining spoiler free?

This story falls very much into the realm of sci-fi horror, so be prepared!

Is there anything you would like to say to the fans of Starcraft?

Blizzard has been great to work with, and I love how much everyone there I’ve talked to is dedicated to telling amazing stories.

Thank you to Jody and all of our readers!

StarCraft: Scavengers #1 is available for purchase from July 25th.
