Immortal Legend Batman #1 Review
Immortal Dark Knight
In an all-new tale of the Dark Knight, this world’s Batman is on another level of intrigue. Dark shadows bent on destruction and extreme violence plague mankind. Their only defense lies in the hands of three individuals who harness the power to stop them. In Immortal Legend Batman #1, Batman is in pursuit of a shadow unlike any have seen. Meanwhile, there has been a string of horrific murders happening to residents of the planet Avoca, and Batman believes a shadow that can think is responsible. What will Batman do when he’s the one being framed for the murders?
Written by Kyle Higgins (Death of Wolverine, The New Gods) and Mat Groom (Radiant Black, Superman Unlimited), Immortal Legend Batman #1 is essentially Batman in space, and it’s fantastic. There is much to like about this comic book, and here’s why. Higgins and Groom’s approach to this kind of story for Batman sets him apart from other iterations of the character by placing him in a world where people aren’t the problem, but rather monsters are the problem. Unlike some similar Batman stories, this story is written from an avenue of curiosity and exploration into the unknown. That unknown might have fans becoming more invested in the story as it unfolds. The comic book has a strong beginning, as it features a few surprising alterations that are interesting to discover about the world Batman inhabits. It’s immensely more dangerous than protecting one city. Instead, it’s a whole galaxy.
The interior illustrations by Erica D’Urso (Black Panther, Moon Man) and Dan Mora (Absolute Superman, Batgirl) are crafted beautifully. The amount of detail within the comic book shows how committed both D’Urso and Mora were to providing quality visual storytelling. The bat suit in Immortal Legend Batman #1, drawn by them, looks awesome when some panels give a clear view of it. It’s a suit that’s unique to this world’s Batman and has a lot of special abilities that not even regular Batman can compete with. In terms of artwork as a collaboration on this comic book, both artists found harmony in working together creatively.
Igor Monti (Justice League Red, Inferno Girl Red) and Tamra Bonvillain (Alice Never After, Aquaman) did a wonderful job with the colors of Immortal Legend Batman #1. The coloring work added depth and atmosphere to the world the characters live in. Enthralled by the coloring work of both colorists, Batman’s color scheme is wildly entertaining to admire, thanks to their expertise.
The lettering by Becca Carey (Action Comics, Batgirl) is a joy to read along with in this comic book. Her sound effects make a difference in how the story is perceived throughout the book. Every moment that included a sound made Immortal Legend Batman #1 worthwhile.
Having worked on the interiors, Dan Mora’s cover to Immortal Legend Batman #1 is astonishingly enticing. Mora’s vision of Batman, like no other, in a pose that empowers mystery and excitement, is sure to grab any reader of Batman titles.
Verdict
Overall, Immortal Legend Batman #1 is a good read for those who are looking for different features with Batman in a new light. It’s also a good starting point, as the story doesn’t require a fan to backlog events to catch up. Instead, the story starts with a fresh introduction and a problem a hero must face. If you’d like to read about this comic book, be sure to pick it up from your local comic book store or online, where copies are sold.
