GREGG BERGER INTERVIEW: Supanova 2024 @SupanovaExpo

The King of Cons is back with Supanova 2024 and we catch up with the King of Voice Actor himself, Mr Gregg Berger!

Welcome to Impulse Gamer Gregg and of course Supanova!

Thanks for having me!

So how did you become involved in voice acting?

LONG story shorter… my background is in theater and touring companies of a play led me from the Midwest United States to Los Angeles, where I planted roots and was able to acquire agents and continued to work in theater, episodic television, film, commercials and voiceovers.

Kind of a performance juggler.

While appearing in the restaged for Los Angeles Company of the off Broadway play, Cloud Nine, I was seen jumping in and out of multiple characters by Gordon Hunt, voice director for all of the animated voice recording at Hannah Barbera, and also by Wally Burr, the director of the original episodes of Transformers and GI Joe. Thankfully BOTH of them kept me in mind for shows that they were directing!

And the rest has been a career of doing what I LOVE to do, as the voice of SO many iconic animated characters.

How fortunate am I?!?!?!

If you could pick three of the characters you voiced to have a beer or “oil” with, who would they be and why?

  1. GRIMLOCK
Because GRIMLOCK loves Kupp’s war stories
Because he loves when you tell GRIMLOCK about Petro Rabbits
    Because GRIMLOCK KICKS BUTT!
  2. Sir Jecht
Because somebody had to teach that kid to play BLITZBALL!
Because that boy needs to be a MAN!
Because…. YER NOT CRYIN ARE YA?!?!?
  3. The Gromble
Because Humans are easy to SCARE
Because Ickis, Krumm and Oblina are LATE FOR CLASS!!!
Because…. Do these red pumps make me look fat?!?

Bad AI of Grimlock, Sir Jecht and The Gromble

What is your favourite line that you delivered?

ME GRIMLOCK NO BOZO!… ME KING!!!

And what do fans want you to say at cons?

THE PAIN!!!

YER NOT CRYIN ARE YA?!?

I HATE DRAGONS!!!

ME GRIMLOCK KICK BUTT!!!

Supanova! What are you most looking forward to at this con?

Seeing the fans, seeing SupaNova!

Finding out what characters and shows resonate there and why!

Experiencing Australia, embracing the travel opportunity and making memories!

If you could cosplay any character you’ve played, who would it be and why?

Odie! Because he’s got unlimited energy, because he’s got unlimited positivity, because he never stops running and jumping and slurrrping and because…….    Rrrrrowwwwwppp!!!!

Bad AI of Odie Cosplay – you’re welcome (Editor-in-Chief)

Tell us your favourite con story?

Hmmm. Well, there was a BOTCon in Los Angeles which included the induction of Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay into the Transformers Hall of Fame (it has since been my own great good fortune to have been inducted into it as well). The Convention’s Really BIG event took over the entire ‘New York Street’ on the Backlot of Paramount Studios! We were ALL escorted to the Paramount Large Screening theater and shown a sneak preview of what was to become the Transformers LIVE ACTION FEATURE. It was an amazing experience start to finish and amazing to be a part of. MUCHO MEMORABLE!!! But then… SO MANY of them are for SO MANY REASONS!!! ROCK ON SUPANOVA!!!

Lastly, what does the rest of 2024 hold for you?

Working currently on projects protected under NDAs so can’t go into detail, but busy as always and more Convention travel and special guesting appearances as the year progresses. Continuing some writing, occasional coaching (gotta pay it forward!) and I remain active in causes that I find worthwhile. You can find me on Facebook (facebook.com/greggberger) and I will try to keep it lively.

Thanks again for your interest and I will hope to see you all at SupaNova!!!
