Google launches Search Live Australia-wide

Today, Google has announced Search Live is available Australia-wide! You can now have interactive conversations with Search in AI Mode, using both voice and camera. It’s designed for those moments when you need real-time help, and typing out a query just won’t cut it.

Ready to give it a whirl? Here’s how it works:

  • Real-time help from the Google app: To go Live with Search, simply open the Google app on Android or iOS and tap the Live icon under the Search bar. You can ask your question out loud to get a helpful audio response, then continue the conversation with follow-up questions or dive deeper with helpful web links.
  • Go hands-free with Search Live: If you want to ask about something in front of you, like how to install a new shelf, you can enable your camera to add visual context – Search can see what your camera sees and offer helpful suggestions, plus links to more information online.
  • Multimodal and multilingual: This expansion is enabled by the new Gemini 3.1 Flash Live voice model, which is inherently multilingual and delivers even more natural and intuitive conversations so people around the world can now converse with Search in their preferred language.

In other news, you can simplify your Shopping in Search and Gemini:

A major AI shopping feature has rolled out across Google in Australia in English. Say goodbye to endless filter clicks and picking the perfect keywords. With these new shopping features in Search and Gemini, you can now simply describe what you’re looking for just as you’d say it to a friend and get a thorough response with accurate shopping data you can trust. Here are all the details:

  • Shop conversationally in Search: When you ask AI Mode a shopping question, you’ll get an intelligently organised response that brings together rich visuals and all the details you need (like price, reviews and inventory info).
  • Tailored responses to your specific question and needs: If you’re looking for visual inspiration, like “cosy cardigans for happy hour in warm autumn colours,” you’ll see shoppable images. Or, if you’re deciding between a few options — like moisturisers suited to your skin type — you’ll see a comparison table with a side-by-side view of considerations specific to that product, including insights from reviews (like how a moisturiser feels on skin) to help you quickly understand the differences.
  • Shopping features in the Gemini app: Users can go from brainstorming to browsing right within the Gemini app, which can generate shoppable product listings, comparison tables, prices and places to buy from across the web.
  • The latest information available: AI Mode and Gemini are powered by the Shopping Graph (includes 50+ billion product listings – 2 billion of which are updated every hour), which means you can trust you’re seeing fresh information and unmatched selection.
