Godzilla #6 REVIEW
Passing The Rage
A battle never witnessed before takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. G-Force and Jacen face off with the combined might of Godzilla and Lament simultaneously in Godzilla #6. After the revelation of Lament as Jacen’s mother, Jacen’s rage rivals that of Godzilla’s. Using his newfound deepened hatred for the King of Monsters, Jacen holds nothing back. Lament makes her move to utilize her plan to erase Godzilla from the earth. Unfortunately, she’ll have to get through G-Force to do it first, and they’re not backing down anytime soon.
Skillfully written by Tim Seeley (Fight Club 2), Godzilla #6 is wickedly crazy. The turn of events feels like a miniature movie being played out. The pacing of the story so far offers digestible information and scenes that complement the growth of the characters in the story. Jacen’s rage is understandable, and therefore, to readers, it seems reasonable in the way he acts here in this comic book. Readers can say that Jacen and Godzilla are the same. As for Lament being an anti-force of nature, it adds a whole new mythos to the Godzilla universe. As Seeley stated in the first issue of this series, audiences have never seen a Godzilla story like this before at all. Thankfully, Seeley follows through with his promise to bring something different to the table than other stories.
Visually pleasing artwork, Nikola Čižmešija (Tim Drake: Robin) stands out with fantastic expression and execution. Čižmešija hits every expectation of how a story stays entertaining in Godzilla #6. The line work itself is a sight to take a moment and appreciate the level of dedication required to construct together. The panels Čižmešija aligns showcase the importance of each scene in the comic book. Additionally, cover art speaks a lot of volumes about what’s happening in the comic book, but it still leaves readers questioning what’s happening. A job well done.
The vibrant display of coloring by Francesco Segala (Kaiju Score: Steal from the Gods) and coloring assistant Gloria Martinelli (Dutch) in Godzilla #6 is epically riveting. The amount of coloring in this comic book is crazy. There are so many colors happening at one time. While breathing life into the panels to enhance the work of Čižmešija, readers should praise the colorist for bringing their full focus to the comic book. It’s important to note that the comic book wouldn’t be as worthwhile if it weren’t for the efforts of these two individuals.
Stitching all the pieces together, Nathan Widick (Kill More) doesn’t miss a beat with his lettering skills. As there is so much happening in the comic book, Widick makes sure to give readers the level of visual understanding of the sound, exuberating pleasure. When big action sequences transpire, Widick doesn’t fail to impress.
Overall, Godzilla #6 is a wonderful joy ride of Ka-Sei energy in a big way. There’s so much to explore in this series from this issue and the previous issues. This comic book is given so much detail and action that it’s hard to want to quit the series and start another one. It’s intriguing to read and a must for fans of Godzilla alike. For those who want to hop on board or for those following along, you can pick this one up at your local comic book store or online, where copies are sold. Till Next Time!
