"Smart" smart scales!

The FitTrack Dara Smart BMI Digital Scale is one of the smartest “smart-scales” available that serves as a great tool to monitor your weight – So if you’re looking to improve your health or exercise regime, the FitTrack Dara Smart BMI Digital Scale might be the perfect device for you, particularly from a tracking perspective. The app can also sync to other wearables in order to holistically monitor your health.

While the scale measures your weight, it also calculates your body fat but breaks your body composition further into body mass index, muscle mass and obesity level which includes visceral fat that is found deep inside your abdominal cavity and surrounds important organs which can be detrimental to your health.

Additionally, it can track up to 8 different people from children to adults, however each will need their own unique account on the FitTrack MyHealth app which is used to interpret its 17-different body measures that is achieved through its electrical resistance technology. Given this technology, people with pacemakers or serious health issues should consultant their medical professional before using this device.

According to FitTrack, their scales come within 3% of accuracy of medical grade DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scans which goes into in-depth detail about your body composition. Although the app is decent and it can integrate with other popular health apps, it will continue to try linking with Google Health even if you don’t want to link the app. Also the app pushes the premium features a little too hard as well. Even though this is annoying, you can ignore it.

Features

Unboxing

Well packed, the FitTrack Dara Smart BMI Digital Scale looks rather unassuming which is good as you can place them in any bathroom and no one will look twice. In terms of size, the scale measure at 32cm x 32cm and are quite lightweight as well at 1.3kg. The other noticeable elements is the glass top with four oval shaped metal plates that are used for the electrical pulses to measure resistance in your body. Lastly, there is an LCD display that becomes activated when you stand on the scales and it is powered by 3 AAA batteries that are not included.

Setting up the scales is done by downloading the app and then connecting it via Bluetooth. With the app, you need to go through a wizard which includes adding your personal details like age, weight, height etc. Lastly, you need to your set your goals but it’s great being able to track your progress.

As you can see from the app, it’s quite comprehensive and it does take a few days for the scale to get to know you as the first weigh-in reported my metabolic age was 20. After a few weigh-ins, it did get closer to my age. Verdict I need to do more training! So with its comprehensive data and depending on your goals (e.g. fitness, muscle gain, weight loss), you will not need to monitor all 17-aspects, however it is possible.

So how does all this magic work? As mentioned, the scales sends electrical signals or pulses into your body from your feet towards your abdomen that determines the resistance of these signals. The resistance data is then collected by the scales and then translated into “human-talk” for your app. The scales also support users of up to 180kg and it comes with a 2-year warranty for some additional peace of mine.

Best of all, once you have setup the scales and your account, you simply stand on the scales to monitor your biometrics which is super fast. As the scales are excellent for weight loss, the ability to monitor muscle mass is also a great feature for those looking to build muscle mass. In terms of syncing, you do need to have the app open or running in the background on your phone which is no real issue.

Final Thoughts?

The FitTrack Dara Smart BMI Digital Scale is indeed a clever smartscale and they can be regularly found on sale. My only drawback is how the app pushes its premium subscription service and that you need to link it to your Google Health account to remove the annoying reminder message. Of course, the subscription is great for those looking to take their weight loss and fitness to a new level, particularly if you don’t have a gym membership. Apart from that, the FitTrack Dara Smart BMI Digital Scale is  affordable and come with a wealth of clever biometrics to promote your health and fitness.
