Dark Horse is delighted to share with you this year’s Eisner Awards 2019 nominations. The nominees, chosen by a blue-ribbon panel of judges, reflect the wide range of material published in comics and graphic novels.

Named for acclaimed comics creator Will Eisner, the awards are in their fourteenth year of highlighting the best publications and creators in comics and graphic novels.


Best Single Issue/One-Shot: Black Hammer: Cthu-Louise, by Jeff Lemire and Emi Lenox

Best Continuing Series: Black Hammer: Age of Doom, by Jeff Lemire, Dean Ormston, and Rich Tommaso

Best U.S. Edition of International Material: Niourk, by Olivier Vatine, translated by Brandon Kander and Diana Schutz

Best Archival Collection/Project—Comic Books: Will Eisner’s A Contract with God: Curator’s Collection, edited by John Lind

Best Comics-Related Book: Yoshitaka Amano: The Illustrated Biography—Beyond the Fantasy, by Florent Gorges, translated by Laure Dupont

Best Publication Design: Will Eisner’s A Contract with God: Curator’s Collection, designed by John Lind

Best Writer: Jeff Lemire, Black Hammer: Age of Doom, Black Hammer: Quantum Age, Doctor Star & the Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows

Best Coloring: Tamra Bonvillain, Alien 3

Best Lettering: Todd Klein, Black Hammer: Age of Doom, Neil Gaiman’s A Study in Emerald

Best Lettering: David Aja, Seeds

The Eisner Awards will be presented July 19, 2019 at the awards ceremony at Comic-con International. Voting for the awards is held online. All professionals in the comic book industry are eligible to vote.
