Summary: Another collaboration for Bluey, this time with Croc's, and their bringing their friends to toddler-friendly footwear.

Bluey x Croc

We should all be familiar with Impulse Gamer’s tag, ‘more than just games’. So I don’t think it’s too long of a bow to draw from the hit ABC Kids TV show Bluey to Crocs. And I can’t believe that I’m actually jealous of my toddler for being the only person in the house who gets to wear Croc‑branded clogs that look surprisingly cool now that we’re reviewing the Toddler Bluey Best Buddies Classic Clog.

My only experience with Crocs to date was at work – working at a hospital in close proximity to surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre staff, Crocs were everywhere. For some they were purely practical despite the intermittent cringe of onlookers, and for others they were a chance to incorporate a small token of colour and personality alongside standard blue scrubs. So I’ll admit to thinking that all thermoplastic clogs were basically the same, and that up until now all of Campbell and Sid’s clogs were sourced from generic retailers at a price point that allowed us to accept any damage from the unusual wear and tear that toddlers subject their belongings to – let alone any oddly specific and unpredictable preferences that meant a $10 AUD pair of shoes were instantly rejected, never to be considered again.

Fast‑forward to now – whilst I’m still not sure $79.99 AUD (per the Crocs website at the time of writing) is an accessible price point, I can’t deny that the Toddler Bluey Best Buddies Classic Clog is a magnitude of quality superior to anything we’ve bought from local retailers in the past. I checked all the other shoes we’ve bought just in case – they also claim to be 100% thermoplastic… but somehow the clogs sent for the review from Crocs are managing to survive hours of balance‑bike riding and being used as friction brakes, in addition to all the usual crazy shenanigans my motor‑heavy toddler gets up to.

And he loves them. We have literally a dozen pairs of toddler shoes at the front door, and despite best efforts and a variety of novelties and intellectual property, Campbell will commonly wear only one or two varieties for months at a time. The moment he opened the box with me, “Bluey Crocs” were added to the rotation alongside Spiderman. I appreciate that Crocs have made the left and right shoes different designs with distinct characters to help us with differentiating left and right for when Campbell yells at me, “I do it on my own!”. The different designs have also let us speak about the different characters, which in turn prompts talks about the different stories and lessons of each episode.

So overall I cannot help but recommend the Toddler Bluey Best Buddies Classic Clog given how well they are lasting despite the intense workout they’re getting, and how much Campbell has taken to them. It is probably worth considering how your own toddler goes with footwear in general, let alone their connection with Bluey the franchise – particularly given that you will need to consider the risk of a nearly $80 AUD shoe compared to significantly cheaper comparisons at local retailers for a fast‑growing toddler’s foot. But I wouldn’t be above dropping a hint to family and friends for something like this around birthdays…

4/5 stars.
