Code Vein II Preview
Bandai Namco has officially … uhmm… unveiled the eagerly anticipated Code Vein II that many fans thought would never happen. Media around the globe were treated to a 20-minute preview that included a trailer, videos from the developers and a sneak peak into the gaming mechanics.
While not a direct sequel, Code Vein II is set in a post-apocalyptic future thanks to the catalyst known as the Resurgence which has seen the protectors of humanity, the vampires known as Revenants turned into dangerous horrific creatures courtesy of the Luna Rapacis.
This is where you take the role of a Revenant Hunter who is joined by Lou MagMell, a time traveller who shares half her heart with you with a goal of changing history as you traverse two timelines that include the twisted present and the almost ordered past when the Resurgence first appeared.
Like the original, the gameplay channels that Soulslike vibe which makes the combat not only chaotic but ultra-fast. There’s also a variety of new combat mechanics introduced to offer players a handful of ways of completing the game with these modes including balanced (for newcomers), combat focused or technical (for veterans), including collecting Ichor to upgrade your skills. Speaking of combat, your character has access to powerful bonuses, finishers and weapons which all looked quite spectacular.
Your companion Lou MagMell will also support you in battle that adds a unique twist to this genre and will add some much needed help to your Revenant Hunter. Needless to say, Code Vein is shaping up to be something quite unique that not only pays homage to its predecessor but also spice up the series with some clever narratives with time-travel and improved game mechanics.
Graphically the game looked amazing with some excellent world-building, character designs and special effects, including some stark differences between the two timelines. The main characters interacted perfectly with the environment as did their dance with the enemies. All in all, Code Vein looks like a game to keep an eye out for!
Code Vein II is arriving sometime in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC
