Chery’s robot dogs in production and now on patrol
Chery is one of Australia’s fastest-growing car brands, renowned for intelligent design and advanced technology. But their tech doesn’t stop at cars – it’s also helped to breed a pack of Argos robot dogs! In 2025, Chery’s robotics company, AiMOGA, delivered 1000 robot dogs, marking a significant milestone in the commercialisation of advanced robotics technology.
Built on the software, hardware and manufacturing systems developed within Chery’s global automative system, the Argos robot dog is now being deployed across home assistance, community patrol, factory inspection, industrial site monitoring and many other real-world scenarios.
From manufacturing parks and property to families, Argos undertakes tasks such as safety inspections in hard-to-reach areas, night patrols with real-time video transmission, plus basic assistance within the home. The robot dog features 13 degrees of freedom, can carry items weighing up to 5 kg and up to 6.48 km of operating range. ‘Degrees of freedom’ refers to the number of independent movements the robot can make across its joints and axes, allowing Argos to move, reach, turn and interact with its environment with greater precision and flexibility.
For Chery, the robotics milestone highlights the application of its automotive engineering expertise beyond vehicles, reinforcing its broader innovation strategy across emerging technology categories.
“Delivering the 1,000th Argos robot dog in 2025 demonstrates both our product maturity and our ability to deploy robotics at scale,” says Zhang Guibing, Executive Vice President of Chery Automobile and General Manager of AiMOGA Robotics. “By leveraging Chery’s established manufacturing and quality systems, we are able to bring intelligent robots into practical, everyday scenarios with valuable applications.”
AiMOGA currently operates two standardised robot production lines, with capacity to produce up to 15,000 units annually. The company plans to expand the Argos range, including lightweight home editions, outdoor-durable models and professional patrol versions designed for use in industrial parks, warehouses and construction sites.
Argos has already been deployed across more than 30 countries and regions worldwide, with further testing underway in urban public service roles including security patrol and traffic assistance. Availability for Australia is currently under review, with timing yet to be confirmed.
