Chery accelerates R&D investment by over 25% YoY to support next stage of tech-driven growth
Chery Group set a new delivery record last month, April 2026, underscoring strong global momentum as the company continues to succeed in key markets including Australia.
Total monthly deliveries reached 251,400 units, a 25.2% increase year-on-year, solidifying Chery’s position as the second-largest Chinese automotive brand by delivery volume. New energy vehicle deliveries totaled 100,300 units, growing 63.8% year-on-year, while international deliveries reached 177,600 units, up 102.4%, highlighting accelerating demand across export markets, and marking a new record for monthly international vehicle deliveries from China.
Behind this steady growth in deliveries is Chery’s long-standing commitment to building the company on a strong technological foundation and steadily increasing investment in innovation, as reflected in its latest R&D expenditure figures.
Chery Auto’s first-quarter financial report showed revenue of 65.87 billion yuan ($13.37 billion AUD) and gross profit of 10.564 billion yuan ($2.14 billion AUD), representing 24.91% year-on-year growth, while gross profit margin rose to 16.04%.
First-quarter R&D investment reached 2.85 billion yuan ($578 million AUD), up 25.44% year-on-year and outpacing gross profit growth, underscoring Chery’s continued focus on long-term technological development.
While steadily improving its profitability, Chery continues to allocate resources toward technological innovation to drive high-quality development.

The ongoing increased investment in innovation was showcased in full force at the Beijing Auto Show 2026.
Chery showcased 57 models and simultaneously presented 31 cutting-edge technological achievements in the fields of electrification and intelligent technology, including the KunPeng Sky Optimus engine, which has a thermal efficiency of up to 48.57%, the Rhino battery, the Lingxi Intelligent Cockpit, the Falcon Smart Driving System 900 Robocar, the Feiyu Digital Intelligent Chassis i, the GAIA platform, and the DHT360 continuously variable super hybrid system.
Also on display were the world’s first vehicle-level 48V low-voltage platform, the world’s first AiMOGA Robotics to pass EU hardware and software certification, and Chery’s globally premiered E-fuel power generation product – an ammonia-fueled SOFC power generation system. A series of groundbreaking technologies that redefine the future of mobility and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Leveraging Chery’s Yaoguang+ Kaiyang laboratory cluster, Chery’s technology showcase continues to expand and now boasts a reserve of over 400 core technologies. By the end of 2025, the company ranked first in Anhui Province for invention patents for 12 consecutive years; in 2025, its innovative momentum surged across the board, with the number of invention patent applications increasing by nearly 50% year-on-year and the number of granted patents rising by more than 300%, demonstrating a continuous strengthening of its independent innovation capabilities.
