Celebrating 30 Years of PlayStation in Australia | Big PlayStation Memory Card Sydney Reveal
Sony Interactive Entertainment Australia (SIE AU) today celebrates three decades of PlayStation in Australia, marking 30 years since the regional launch of the original PlayStation console on 15 November 1995.
To commemorate the anniversary, SIE AU has taken inspiration from Australia’s Big Things to debut the Big PlayStation Memory Card in Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks. Standing at over six metres tall, the Big PlayStation Memory Card is a giant, 100-times-scale version of the accessory players used to save their game progress on the original PlayStation.
Bringing the celebration to life, the monument displays hundreds of genuine memories sourced and submitted by the Australian gaming community – a heartfelt way of gathering Australia’s most treasured ‘gaming saves’ and celebrating 30 years of unforgettable moments.
Patrick Lagana, Director of Marketing ANZ, Sony Interactive Entertainment says “Expanding on Australia’s famous Big Things – those giant fruit and animal landmarks we all know and love, the Big PlayStation Memory Card transforms a nostalgic piece of PlayStation hardware into something monumental. Showcasing Australia’s most cherished gaming memories in one place, it’s our way of saying thank you to every Aussie player who has been part of this remarkable journey”.
Open to the public, the 30th Anniversary event also features PlayStation 30th Anniversary giveaways, cosplay of some of the most iconic PlayStation characters and an ASTRO BOT speed run competition.
