Call of Duty Tops List of Video Games Damaging Homes
From backyard footy kickabouts to video gaming marathons, Australians can’t get enough of their games – but new research from Compare the Market AU shows these hobbies lead to an unexpected price tag.
The contents insurance experts at Compare the Market AU surveyed households to reveal which games (both video and physical) cause the most damage to belongings, furniture, and homes.

Outdoor ball games top the list of destructive pastimes, with 31% of Australian households reporting accidental damage from backyard favourites like football and cricket.
Video games can be just as risky, with Call of Duty placing second overall (30%). Other top video game offenders include Fortnite (24%), Mario Kart (23%), FIFA (22%) and Minecraft (20%).
Here are some additional findings:
- The average repair bill for game-related damage sits at $169.52, with nearly one in four households (22%) spending between $51 and $100 to fix accidents.
- Tech devices are the most commonly damaged items, with 39% of incidents involving laptops, mobiles, or tablets.
- Other frequent casualties include ornaments and mirrors (34%), furniture (28%), holes in walls or ceilings (27%), TVs and stereos (26%), and carpets (25%).
- New South Wales households lead the way in console-related accidents (47%), though their average repair bill is slightly below the national average at $160.
